Has anyone called to see where they are on the waitlist yet?
Orientation starts w/the M1's on Monday Aug 16.Does anyone know when class will start this year? Thanks
Email Leah for the student housing official flyer. There is some student housing across the street from school, but med masters don't get first dibs.HWhere should I look for housing?
May is way too early to sign an August lease.I need to find a place with a lease starting August 1st, but most of the places start before that. Do most places for August leases get posted in May? I plan on coming down for a weekend near the end of May to hopefully sign a lease. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Generally the med masters get to do any activities the M1's can do. Shadowing is super easy - just go up and ask whenever an MD does a lecture, usually a couple times a week. If you pursue it, you'll find it.Also, I was wondering if the Medical Master's students can participate in any of the medical student groups? I have seen that there are a few free medical clinics that medical students participate in and I would like to also if possible. I was also wondering if there are shadowing opportunities available?
It really depends on what you're looking for. If you're very specific about details, you'll have to work your butt off and watch listings like a hawk. If you're flexible, you can wait until the last minute. Thanks for the quick response!
I guess I just need to take a deep breath and relax. I have been feeling like I am behind when it come to looking for a place. At my current school, people start signing leases for the next school year starting in January. May is considered late if you want a place within 5 miles of campus. When would be a good time to start looking for August leases?
random ?, but what are the typical male attire guidelines, if we are expected to be dapper at all times (no jeans) I may have to supplement my wardrobe. Gratzie
so who is calling on monday to find out where they are on the waitlist?
anyone hear back from fin aid yet or know how good their aid packages tend to be?
I'm going to call this afternoon. We should call Leah Solomon, correct?
Generally no, you'd have to petition the other school to be let out of a curriculum requirement. The way M1 classes are organized varies greatly from school to school.I have a question about credit received during Medical Masters. My understanding is that you get Honors (A) or High Pass (A-/B+) you will not have to retake those classes as a M1 student at EVMS.
Are those credits transferable to other schools?
No, that's not the deal. An SMP is med school on the five year plan.Is it possible to earn enough credits to save a semester of tuition?

Hi guys,
I was just wondering: How does EVMS help/advise students who concurrently apply to medical schools while in the Medical Masters program? What kind of support is there and what is the experience like? Especially since you may miss classes due to interviews and what not?
Any info is much appreciated.
Thanks!
Dr. Meyer is fairly aggressive in making sure med masters students have concurrent apps going, for MD and DO.Hi guys,

There are a couple I know of that got into EVMS, and a couple that got accepted elsewhere. I haven't heard any news in a while because everybody's studying for finals.Dr. Midlife, have any of the current Med Master's students found out yet about EVMS acceptance for next year? I'm interested seeing what percentage of you get accepted and based on what I've read about past years, it's getting to be about the time when you all hear. If you haven't heard back yet, GOOD LUCK 🙂
Also, do you know of any of your classmates who have acceptances already at other schools? If so, which ones?
EVMS med masters students interview for the waitlist. So it's completely expected that most med masters are still on the waitlist. Waitlists don't start to move until after May 15. What's happening this year is absolutely the same as what happened last year and the year before: May 15 comes, everybody freaks out, and then acceptances start to roll in.Yeah that is what I was talking about as well. The person who PMed me was worried about attending EVMS on the basis they heard a lot of people were waitlisted for med school who were currently in the EVMS MBS program. And that not as many have gotten in yet as have in past years. So that is why I was curious to the answers to your question. That is what made them wonder if it was as great as some of the other SMPs they were applying to.
Definitely don't hold your primary app for the first letter.Dr. Midlife, thanks for the info. It was super helpful. Another quick question...When exactly does the letter from Dr. Meyer go out? Should I add it to my AMCAS application or is it sent out after I have already submitted my primary?
I'm curious to also know where previous med masters have gotten in to medical school besides EVMS if you have those stats.
Thanks again for all the great info.
Here you go: http://www.evms.edu/evms-school-of-health-professions/medical-masters-ms.html.Is there anywhere (I know Gtown smp has a specific page with this info on their site) where we can find how to appropriately fill out our primary applications as far as class listings and how they are to be entered in that sections of AMCAS, obviously we wont have transcrips for these classes as we have not taken them, but we are still to list them correct?
Hmm, they didn't differentiate last year, but I see now they do on 2011 AMCAS.thanks drmidlife, for quick confirmation on amcas, do we select we are attending EVMS-graduate studies vs. just EVMS, and then Masters of Science degree, and is program type graduate or postbacc undergrad, i was thinking the former?
Was anyone able to reach someone at EVMS about their waitlist position. The voicemail's of Leah and Rose both say they are out of the office? I sent an email to medmasters as well and it wouldn't send.
May 15 is the deadline for holders of multiple MD acceptances to pick one school. So after May 15, lots of med schools including EVMS are receiving notification of folks giving up their MD seat. Takes days & days to deal with at each school. Then days and days to deal with at the other affected school. Then after an MD seat (such as at EVMS) is opened, somebody is picked off the MD waitlist to fill it. This is usually done once or twice a week by a committee that meets at a regular time. After the regular meeting, then it takes days and days to offer acceptance to whomever came off the waitlist. Was anyone able to reach someone at EVMS about their waitlist position. Look, you can do whatever you want. But calling Leah, calling Rose, calling Dr. Meyer, etc. doesn't really change your chances, doesn't really give you more info, and if you're not REALLY careful, it can backfire and you'll make a bad impression that's fresh in Dr. Meyer's mind when he's looking at the waitlist.ditto... trying to reach Leah is virtually impossible. I've been trying on and off for about a month now it hasn't happened. I did speak with Dr. Meyer a few weeks ago and while he was very nice and willing to talk, he wouldn't really give me anything concrete about my position on the wait-list, only that I am "very competitive."
The MD admissions committee that processes the MD waitlist has no overlap with the med masters admissions committee that processes the med masters waitlist. It's possible, but unlikely, that the med masters committee knows you're on the MD waitlist, but it would only be relevant to you if you're about to be offered a med masters seat. In that case, Dr. Meyer would probably check with MD admissions on your status before offering you a seat, in case you're on the top of that waitlist too.I am currently also on the wait-list for the MD program, could that have something to do with a lack of action from the Med-Masters?
"lack of action" sounds disrespectful and immature to me, fwiw. There are woefully underpaid, extremely dedicated and hard-working people between you and a med masters acceptance. And the same people will be between you and good grades if you get in.
Best of luck to you.
Edit: I should mention that Dr. Meyer knows about SDN.
This directed to present students who did not use the EVMS provided health insurance, I am looking to obtain insurance from an outside(non evms) VA based insurance provider (blue cross etc) and looking at quotes some are around $1700/yr with deductable vs the ~$2400/yr through EVMS, but being a non-VA resident with intention of moving in during the beginning of August (~1 week or so before orientation, but would know my address by aug 1st) would I then apply for insurance with my VA address to then get approved and have my card mailed to my residence to have copied and bring to orientation as my proof of having insurance? Basically I am just wondering the timeline and process for making this happen as I would love to save a couple hundred on insurance if possible, gracias in advance.
I have another question: what's involved in the library research thesis requirement? What are the topics and is this a written paper or a presentation? Also what is the format of most of the exams? Are they multiple choice and based on rote memory or do we get to apply concepts we learned more?
Thanks!
...the exams we take are the same as the exams the M1s take correct?
