There is alot of discussion over community college coursework. But what if you have completed your prereqs at 4-year unis and are just wanting to take upper level sciences courses at a CC. Is that excusable? DO CC's even offer upper level courses? I'm looking to apply to the Texas schools.

I guess I need you to elaborate your situation more before I can give you a good reply... But here are my thoughts and some things you may want to consider:

1. As you have already stated, it is in your best interest to not take any D-school prereqs at 4-year institutes.

2. I don't think community colleges offer any upper level science classes anyway (not as far as I know). Why are you taking them at a CC? if they're not to fulfill D-school prereqs... are they for fulfilling the requirements of your major? If it's the latter case, you should check with your school adviser to see if they count CC credits towards completing your major (I have a feeling that it won't in many schools).

3. Lastly (and again, I apologize ahead of time if I am misunderstanding your situation), keep in mind D-schools will likely favor 4 year accredited courses over CC courses, so using CC credits may hurt your app a little. what you ultimately have to think about is this: if an interviewer asks you to explain why you took these classes at a community college, will you be able to come up with an reasonable answer? If you have a good excuse such as course conflict, family issues, or definitive financial hardship, then it may be okay for you to take classes at a CC.. However, if you tell your interview that you just wanted to have an easier time completing these upper level science courses, then I would advice against CC classes.

Hope that helps!

Well my reasons are, that I work (out of school for 5 years) so the CC would be convenient to get the classes done and cheaper. I think I can explain the situation in an interview. Only thing is, will schools think "MicroBio, BioChem, CellBio in CC -- ehh we don't think so" lol. But you have to remember, these are just extra classes, not the core pre-reqs

lol, they seem like decent excuses. I don't really know if schools would feel "eh" about taking these classes at CC given your situation. Sorry about not answering your question 😛, but I don't want to give you a wrong answer.

But, one thing I could tell you is... Biochem is becoming a required course at more and more D-schools. You should look into that in case your #1 requires Biochem before applying.
