Hey all,
So thanks to some good fortune I am looking to graduate with my degree in Chemical Engineering in 3 years. Now I have no wish to hurry so I was wondering what would be a good course of action with that extra year. I plan on trying to not have any breaks between 4 years of school and med school. Right now with the extra year of scholarship, I could just attend classes I think would be beneficial, or get a masters degree in Engineering through a specialized program in the school. I am leaning to the masters especially since I would get a more specialized focus in my lab and more funding to carry out a project for the thesis. Thoughts?

A masters in engineering would be a great degree for an engineer to have, so if you want to be an engineer, do it! If you want to be a physician though, it is not the most high-yield way to spend your time.

If you were applying tomorrow, what would be the weakest aspects of your application? Volunteering? Leadership? Medical exposure? You have a chance to seriously improve your application as well as enriching your life experiences -- Do that.

What year in school are you? Because chemical engineering is really hard, rushing through it in 3 years, along with premed prereqs, and all the various ECs, will be almost impossible. Why do this to yourself? Your GPA will suffer.

True enough it would be easier to shore up an application rather than just be trying to always patch it up. Thank you!

Second semester of junior year just taking regular course load atm. Some dual and ap combination to get through the first year. I have an understanding that some med schools don’t take AP or CC credits will look into who takes ASAP.
