Hey dudes,

Hilariously trivial question: for all you folks out there with acceptances, at what point are you going putting your new future med school in your facebook profile?

Plenty of my friends put it up in their educational info section, and I got jealous of them with their hoity toity M.D. degree, class of 2013, and all that dribble. So I put up my own med school info. however, I am on a waitlist at a school I would accept over where i'm currently destined. i do love the school i have been accepted at quite dearly.

faux pas? do tell.

probly when I start in August or whenever but I have not been using FB much at all. Is it me or is facebook too cluttered now/

"beware the green-eyed monster"

Don't do it. Wait until you start. I know people will say "oh this is stupid and trivial and why would you waste your time worrying about this", but the fact is it's pretty pretentious in the first place. Wait until you actually start school. Then you can look forward to your classmates signing their emails with:

"John Smith, B.S. SuperDuper University, MSI University of Awesome Medical School"

Pretentiousness never ends, trust me.

Mine says Dean of Medicine.

I am sorry but I don't see the problem of updating facebook if you know where you're going. It is very helpful for meeting the students that are going to be in your class and in my case will hopefully help me find a roommate that is half decent....call it pretentious if you like but that just means you probably aren't happy with your situation! (sorry for the attack I just HATE when people try and bring others down, and I apologize in advance if this isn't the case)

IIRC, they have fb groups for that, which are more efficient in meeting your future classmates.

I like the "don't ask, don't tell" policy. haha

correct me if I am wrong, but when facebook first came out you needed a school email to start your account up. I never heard from one person that it wasn't correct facebook etiquette to have your school and year whenever you got your school email. Dynezxice...you are right about the fb groups for each school, but if you're doing that what is the difference. Another reason I would put it up is because I am interested in seeing what friends from childhood/high school/friends I have lost touch with are doing so I think it is nice to have on your profile what you are up to. Obviously it's a person to person basis, but to frown upon someone doing that once they have been accepted to the school they are going to is wrong..if you want to do it...do it...if not then don't who cares....

I'm not updating my MD school on Facebook yet because I don't want people commenting about med school on my wall, haha.

You know what's worse is when your pre-med friends who haven't started med school already sign their emails like that. There's this one guy who is the student body president at my school, and he sends school-wide-emails with his signature at the bottom like:

John Doe
Student Body President
X University Class of 2009
X University School of Medicine Class of 2013

It is so annoying.

haha, i dont think i ever read into it that much. i'm taking it off my profile, however i'm not doing so because i think its pretentious, mostly i just feel its unfair. if my waitlist school accepts me, i'd have to change it, thereby seeming like i've mislead folks.

moreover i'd suspect more of my peeps to be happy for me rather than judging me about the matter. in any case, its not that anyone cares! in fact, i replaced just replaced "Stony Brook University" '13 in my profile with
"WOOHOO!!!! '13 " haha!

Sheesh. This is akin to the "When to change SDN status to 'Medical Student'?" thread awhile back. How about when you are actually enrolled in medical school? Matriculate first; show off like a weenie later. 🙂

Keep an eye out for facebook pictures of his, wearing his white coat to the grocery store or the library.

Oh man I love these. It's so pretentious to write that crap in your e-mails as an undergrad. Now if your, say, the Chancellor or someone who's actually important, then yeah it's a nice touch.

Otherwise I don't give a crap what you have to say about yourself; you're a student, just like me. Get over it.

I added the class of 2013 facebook page, but I haven't added it in my educational stuff yet. I personally wouldn't have added the page if I wasn't entirely sure that I was going to attend. I can't add it into my educational stuff because I dont' have a student id yet 😀.

Just show up for your 50th high school reunion. You will only be 68 years old, not that far from your prime. If you are divorced and still have hair on your head, the girls, many of whom will be widows, will be all over you. Plus they will be long past menopause, so no worries about pregnancy and you can just go for it without worrying about the wetsuit. Oh, wait, std's, well, hopefully, ladies of a certain age are delicate about their, ah hem, hygiene. The good news is that nobody will care about your face book page as long as you have a pulse, and, well, the necessary accoutrements in proper working order.
