just some quick things to clarify about the facebook group, particularly for those concerned about privacy

1. joining the group allows other ob/gyn applicants to see your name, profile picture, and "network" (usually your school). that's it. your profile remains restricted. it's basically the equivalent of walking into a room of other applicants with a name tag--no one knows anything else about you.

2. if you recognize the names and faces of people you met on the interview trail you can do two very useful things

- you can send them a private message to arrange a private conversation. this feature will be useful as we make our rank lists and want to compare notes

- you can "friend" them to keep in touch. note that if you friend them, you can again adjust your privacy settings to selectively restrict your photos, wall, or anything else

just my monthly appeal to get people to join us

it makes the time go by faster -- check out where your colleagues are from, how good looking they are, or have actual conversations about the match

for the timid, here's a NYT article

Maybe you should start some discussions on the facebook group wall or in the discussion forum there. It's pretty quiet on there!

there were a few short public conversations during interview season but it went pretty quiet since

i think most people are using the group to identify people they met on the trail and want to stay in touch with, and to have private conversations about specific programs...it's interesting how reluctant many are to post information about programs before the match. this reluctance is reflected not only in the facebook group, but the residency interview feedback site, your MedObsession blog, and even this forum. it's pretty quiet everywhere.

i suspect the facebook group (and this forum) will light up again after the match when people want to see where everyone ended up :)

Very true... there is so much paranoia out there! Hopefully some discussions will start up now that rank lists have been submitted. We've got to talk about something to make this next 3 weeks not seem like an eternity :).

a final appeal for folks to join :)

congrats everyone!
