Fall 2010 Acceptances!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Dear grad school,

Hey? How’s it goin? I haven’t heard from you in a while... Last time we talked you were lookin’… well you were lookin’ pretty good. Ok really good! Look, I was hoping we could touch base sometime soon, ya know? Maybe catch up on things – how are those admissions going? I hear you’ve already accepted a lot of people! That’s…that’s just great. And I’ve seen that you’ve also rejected some people. Well that’s ok, it doesn’t work out all the time.

Anyways – it'd be great if we could do some catching up, you know? See where we're at, maybe patch things up? I've been waiting to hear back from you.

Well, hopefully we'll see each other soon,
MPHNut

I feel your pain. I haven't heard back yet, but I also applied kind of late! I told myself that I wouldn't post anything until I heard back, if I ever do!!!! AHH

Heard back from the last of my schools today. Accepted at UMich for HBHE.

Accepted:
UNC - HBHE - This is where I'm going!! - I think I am also going to do the certificate in International Development.
UMich - HBHE - a great school but i've lived in michigan for 23 years and am so darn sick of winter!
Tulane - International Health & Dev

Waitlisted
Emory - Global Health (did not hear from my other selections)

Rejected
Yale

stats just so you dont have to scroll back
1250 GRE
3.6 GPA
1 year in Americorps at free health clinic
international experiences in Cuba & Ethiopia

Good luck to everyone who is still waiting. I'll be letting all of the school other than UNC know I wont be attending so hopefully that'll free up a spot on waitlists. If anyone else knows they're going to UNC and has visited or will be going to the visit days let me know. I wont be able to before summer and have no idea where to look for an apartment!

ya its so stupid. i have to make a decision soon and plan my visits. and these jerks are not even giving me the light of day....

are other people waiting on JHU?

hey just got the snail mail from NYU Steinhardt!

Community Public Health - Public Health Nutrition program:
It was the big envelope!

I took the GRE pretty late and only got one application in by the deadline - but it was my top choice program. MHS in Global Disease Epidemiology and Control at Hopkins' Department of International Health. Has anyone else heard back from this program, yea or nay? I submitted my application on March 1 (the deadline, and one of the latest out there) so I expect it will still be a few weeks before I hear back.

If I don't get in, I'll work another year and apply more broadly. 🙂

I was send a letter from the department in UTHouston saying i was admitted but i haven't received any letter from the University yet and its killing me .....🙁 any ideas how long will it take to get the letter from the Univ. Its been a month since i received the letter. I am an int'l student

I'm still waiting to hear from JHU as well, plus UNC and BU. I'm getting very frustrated with the whole process 🙁

For example, I finally heard from UIC yesterday (got in! yay!) but they want a deposit by April 1st! That's only 2 weeks to decide and I haven't even heard about any financial aid yet, let alone had time to plan a trip out to Chigaco.

Has anyone tried to get an extension on their deposit due date?

Or has anyone received financial aid info from UIC? Maybe I missed something?

Thanks! And good luck to those of you still waiting!

When I visited UIC, I was told that an extension could be granted. Just shoot an email and ask. They're very nice.

Also, I received an email about finaid but it was to send in some missing documents. I had filed my FAFSA earlier in the year before I even found out I was accepted.

As for UNC, I got my official waitlist letter yesterday, so hopefully you'll hear soon. You can check your "status" to see if they've updated your application recently.

I hope that helps C:

Edit: Also, I get the impression most schools can't/don't talk finaid till you've been officially accepted? So if you applied later, it probably delays the process a bit. Oh and actually when I check my UIC status it says they don't package new students till mid March, so not sure if it's true but throwing it out there for anyone wondering.

I also didn't hear back from UNC yet, did you get this email saying that they were gonna take a few extra weeks, and that if you didn't get a decision that means you weren't rejected yet?

+1 on what Curious said...

UIC definitely is flexible with the deposit date(at least for CHS) just shoot them an e-mail or call.

Also, most finaid decisions/awards are not generated until after you've been accepted so don't worry yet! Congrats on UIC! 🙂

Got accepted to USF, did anyone else even apply to USF or any other FL program? I know it isn't any IV league school, but with no experience and my 1100 GREs, i'm so happy to have that acceptance! Now just waiting on BU to decide if they want me...

I applied to USF C:

I actually got the "official email" as opposed to the unofficial acceptance yesterday. From what I can tell, USF seems just as solid as a program as other schools, so I wouldn't worry about it. Congratulations!!

mha2010 - I heard from UIC's CHS program and UNC's HBHE. I do have a friend who's been rejected from UNC's MHA but I don't know when they got notice. You may want to check out the The grad cafe results though. I think I may have seem a couple from UNC.

JHU- 15 weeks and counting (12 weeks since my app was "complete".... i guess....)
the snow "slowed them down."

In at Emory? I guess after I was waitlisted at Global Health my app forwarded to my next choice dept and I'm accepted for Global Epi. Unexpected and surprised! And completely unprepared for Visit Emory day!

Don't feel too worried- the snow really, really slowed everyone down. It was a big deal. They're not hitting you with a weak excuse, I promise.

Best of luck!!!

Since I received several feedback recently, I decide to share my infor with everyone here. I have my B.S. from a top university in China, and M.S. from ASU.

is anyone still waiting on Yale EMB/CDE? i'm starting to get nervous

Well the results are in...

I heard from my last 2 schools these past 2 days. Waitlisted at BU for Health Law and UNC for HBHE...

I was kind of expecting it from both, as I applied super late to BU and I figured not hearing back from UNC until now was a sure sign that I was destined for the waitlist (esp based on hearing from others on here who recently checked). I'm not particularly losing sleep over either one though. My ego takes solace in the fact I was waitlisted and not rejected.

Next week I will be visiting Yale, Michigan and Columbia to have a nice tour of some of my top choices! I'm super excited for that so no problems!

Accepted into the MPH program at UCLA.

Too bad I applied for the PhD...🙁

Sorry to hear about Berkeley. :-( I'm still waiting on them. What concentration did you apply to?

Hello! I've been lurking around here for about a month now, trying not to get too disappointed at not having heard - yet - from the two schools I've applied to in the US 🙁

Is anyone else waiting to hear from Columbia for an MPH in SMS-Health Promotion? The dept sent me an email last week saying that they've received a great number of apps this year for HP and so they're going to take another 7-10 days!! I'm also waiting to hear from JHU for an MHS in Intl Health Systems, but my file there was completed only Feb 23, so it hasn't even been a month yet. Anyone else waiting to hear from them as well?

My stats:
GPA: 3.5, Major GPA 3.7
GRE: 730Q, 690V
Work Exp: +2 yrs in Soc Sci research, and health related internships/volunteer work

Good luck to everyone!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all of the great postings and info on this site.

Just wanted to share that I was accepted to JHU for the MPH program on Tuesday! I found out on the website ('apply yourself').

My stats:
GPA: 3.3 (major: biochem and molecular biology)
MCAT: 28Q
2.5+ years working in clinical research (both industry and government), plus in college I volunteered at a free health clinic.

Best of luck to everyone!

Accepted:
Tulane
UFlorida
USouth Florida
UTexas at Houston

Rejected:
Emory

I'm okay with that because I wouldn't be able to afford Emory anyways!
It was between Tulane and USF (I'm a Florida resident), but now that I got into UT, I really think that's where I'm heading.

Update:

Accepted:
Tufts MPH Global Health/MS Nutritional Epi
NYU - MPH Nutrition
Emory - Global Epidemiology

Rejected:
GWU - Microbio and Emerging Infectious Diseases
UNC - Nut Epi PhD
UC Berkeley - Health Behavior and Society

...Berkeley had a really terrible and impersonal rejection letter. I'm not surprised at the rejection, I just think their link to a generic rejection letter was pretty ridiculous considering how much it cost to apply to them.

I felt the same way about my UCLA rejection which was through the graduate school at UCLA and not even the school of public health let alone the department I applied to- oh well. The UC system probably can't afford to be sensitive these days...

You were one of those, huh? 😉 I'm wondering what's up with the CHS--> EHS business. Either way, UCLA is UCLA! Good luck!! :luck:

I've been reading everyone's news for the past 3 months. Congratulations! Now that I have heard from all my schools, I would like to share mine.

BU

Rejected:
Oxford (IH)

I am trying to decide between Columbia and Yale, and maybe BU if I make it off the waitlist. This is probably the hardest part of the entire application process...

I logged into JHU's online application program today and saw that my admission status was now available to be viewed.

I got in to Johns Hopkins' MHS in GDEC (Global Disease Epidemiology and Control) through their Department of International Health (I'm most likely going to do the Peace Corps Masters International program).

I'm happy because this was actually the only program I applied for -- but it would have been my first choice had I been able to apply more broadly! I wasn't sure about going to school this fall so I took the GRE late (Dec 19) and this was the only deadline I met. My application was submitted on the deadline (3/1/2010) and admissions status was apparently posted on 3/19/2010, though I didn't scroll down far enough to see it until today.

I'd be happy to hear from anyone who got into this or other IH programs at JHU.

I've heard back from all programs save for UBC (in Canada), but I'm not considering going there at this point...

Accepted:
JH (MPH)
BU (SBS)
Dartmouth
(Also got in to NYU Masters in I/O Psyc - which I had previously been considering so decided why not apply)

I think I'm going to Hopkins!

Just heard back from UMich!

Accepted:
UMich-MPH Intl Health Epi (submitted 1/16, received 2/15, notified 3/22)

Waiting:
UNC- MPH Nutrition (submitted 12/15, notified after I called them 3/11)

No response yet:
Yale- MPH CDE (submitted 1/20, received 2/9...)

Whew-I was getting pretty worried after only having applied to 3 schools (I'm interested in chronic diseases and am looking for very specific courses/training) :xf:
