Fall 2010 Acceptances!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I haven't updated in a while, so I figure I'd do it today on the day of my first rejection. Here's the recap so far:

Acceptances:
UC Berkeley (Epi/Biostats)
Dartmouth (General)
Emory (Epi)
Yale (Chronic Disease Epi)
UC Davis (General)
Boston University

University of Washington (Epi)

Still Waiting:
UCLA (Epi)
GWU (Epi)
SDSU (Epi)

See previous posts for stats. Feel free to PM me if you've got questions. I just wanted to say that this forum has been an amazing place for researching the MPH in's and out's and thanks to everyone who keeps posting! It gives hope to the rest of us! And to the rest of you guys...keep your chin up! Schools are releasing most of their decisions soon!

But for UW sounds like budget cuts was the primary reason for cutting people off their lists!

utph & citrusguy2010 - Sorry to hear that. The first rejection sucks, even when your heart isn't set on that school school. I don't know how to explain it. Best of luck, you've got some awesome schools already!! C:

curious - concentrations were:

Pitt - BCHS and Epi (accepted to both)
UMinn - MCH
Tulane - IHD
UNC-CH - HBHE
Berkeley - MCH
Hopkins - IH/SBI

I've been trolling for a while, but I thought I'd ease everyone's minds a little. I live in DC, and here and the surrounding areas (Maryland and Virginia) were hit pretty hard by two snow consecutive snow storms. My office only opened yesterday, after having been closed since the 4th. People probably shouldn't worry too much about Hopkins and GW acceptances being a little later than anticipated- there is no way the admissions committees could have been working during the past two weeks or so (particularly since Monday was a holiday, too).

Anyway, my stats:
Applying to MPH programs
3.3ish GPA from a top tier liberal arts school (double major in health-related social science, and language)
740 V, 620 Q, 5.5 A
2 years of experience in public health research

Accepted:
Emory, BSHE (sent to SOPHAS on Dec 26th, Emory received on January 26th, sent to Admissions committee on January 27th, and accepted February 1) (Great turnaround time for Emory, not so great for SOPHAS, but that's to be expected)

Still waiting:
Hopkins, Health Behavior and Society; Columbia, Sociomedical Sciences; Yale, Social and Behavioral Sciences; and BU, Social and Behavioral Science.

I'm getting a tiny bit anxious, I feel much, much better now that I know I'm going somewhere! I'm especially interested to hear from Hopkins and Columbia. I spoke with a woman on the phone in the admissions department at Columbia today, who said that MPH candidates should hear back in early March.

Good luck, everyone!

I'm so impressed with Yale right now. My application was complete Feb 2 and I got my acceptance letter yesterday to the MPH in HPM! Two week turn around!

My wait for Michigan is over! SOPHAS sent my info on January 20th and I received an admittance email to general Epi today.

Acceptances for Epi unless otherwise noted:
Michigan
U Minn
UIC
UWashington (MCH Epi)
Emory

Waiting:
Harvard (MS Epi)
U Pitt
BU
Berkeley
Yale

Good luck to everyone! The waiting is the worst!:luck:

Yay, congrats! What are your stats?

hmm so i should get something soon...nervous!

I got an email indicating acceptance to the Clinical Effectiveness program (MPH) at Harvard today. It's the only school I applied to.

Anyone know how schools view the SOPHAS processing timeline? Because I e-submitted Jan. 26, and my application still has not been mailed to the designated schools. Will the schools see that original submission date?

Accepted to USF this morning-MCH!

Received notice of it going for review last Monday so a little under two weeks. Hooray! 🙂

When I asked them that question, they told me that schools would look at the date you e-submitted.

Different schools view this differently. I know that Harvard expects the application to get to them from SOPHAS by their deadline (meaning that you have to submit to SOPHAS at least 8 weeks in advance, to be safe). All of the schools to which I applied that take SOPHAS expected me to submit to SOPHAS by their deadline, and not them- so you're probably all set. My SOPHAS schools were Emory, BU and Yale.

You can call the school to make sure, if you're nervous- they'll probably tell you what you want to hear.

I was wondering if anyone has heard from UC Berkeley yet. I know two people on this forum have already heard, but besides them, anybody else heard anything?
If not, does anyone know why? Is it because of the overwhelming number of applicants?

+1 so tired of waiting to hear from them! 😕

I really don't know if "overwhelming number of applications" can be their excuse.....

Emory gets 2,000 apps every year and their turnaround is pretty fast. Only 1,300 for Berkeley, and the apps were all in before the Dec deadline.....

I can tell from gradcafe and other sites that last year a large number of people found out their admissions result from just calling and asking.
However, that might be obnoxious in mid-February? hmmmm

oh, that is tempting. but I don't want to be "that" guy... where else did you read that (other than gradcafe)?

I got an acceptance email from Berkeley last night at 6:20pm EST. Very excited, though choking a little on the price tag. $20k more than going to Pitt (I'm in state for PA...). Gulp.

Has anyone applied to the Family and Community Health Division of the MPH program at Harvard?

Everyone who has applied to Harvard is required to have an advanced degree of some kind correct?

Anyone heard from Harvard yet?

First rejection today, from my LAST choice school... Ugh...

Accepted: Emory, Carnegie Mellon
Rejected: UCLA
Still waiting: Boston, Columbia, NYU, Harvard, Yale
(all for HPM)

Acceptance email from UIC's MCH program this morning!

Also accepted at Emory (BSHE) and still waiting on Berkeley (MCH).

Yea...but it's tough to be upset when you're already into a fine school like Emory isn't it? Who knows...maybe the fact that it was your last choice showed up on your application.

Don't sweat it.

Apparently driving and getting an admissions decision from one of your top schools doesn't go well together....

Once I pulled over and was able to read the e-mail I found out I got into UIC! Super super super excited!

Can I ask what your concentration was?
Also,
did anyone else hear from Berkeley? anything??

P.S. completely forgot to say congratulations! You should try to visit the campus if you can; I think it is a great university and a very interesting city to live in. I did my undergrad. there and really enjoyed it.

Sooo so true! Thanks, Deem 🙂

Hi first time poster here 🙂.

Just got an e-mail for Berkeley today (2/19) at around 4 PM PST informing me that I was accepted to the MPH program in Health and Social Behavior. I submitted my app on 11/29. Still waiting to hear back from SDSU, UCLA, and Columbia. As far as stats go, I had a 3.5 at an Ivy League and 590V/650Q on the GRE. I worked in community/free clinics in college and did some public health research.

So excited!
