I am....brushing up on algebra, trig, and basic chemistry so that I can ace the placement exams! Starting my post-bacc work this spring with Gen Physics I and Gen Chem I -- if everything goes according to plan. If any bio classes are held at night I will take that too. Fitting all this around a full-time work schedule is going to be a pain, but totally worth it.

I'm only taking:
Microbiology
O Chem I
Genetics

So far genetics is by far my most challenging course. The only bio classes I've had before this semester was A&P years ago so all the "review" is basically new for me. Also, it's online so I'm having to spend that little extra time to teach it to myself as well as master it. The prof just gives out so much busy work that accounts for about as much time a week as I spend on ochem and micro combined.

I'm also going to be shadowing an ENT surgeon and a radiation oncologist this semester and got a call last week from a local hospital about a volunteer position so I can finally get some EC's that relate to medicine.

Good luck to all with the fall semester!

I'll be taking:

- Physics I
- Physiology
- Cell Bio
- Biochem I

And still working full time as a medic at the ER and volunteering 12 hrs. week as a firefighter / paramedic. I've set this up to be my most challenging post bacc semester yet, but I'm confident (foolishly so?) that I can handle everything.

52 hours a week not counting class time, eh?

Look into Cogmed Training. It is an evidenced-based memory and focus tool developed for people with ADD and ADHD. I have been doing the 30min/day training for the last 3 weeks and my focus has sharpened, recall is the best I've had my entire life, and attention span has improved tremendously.

It's expensive ($1,500), but you get 6 months of training and a local psychologist as a mentor through the program.

YMMV, but it has been a godsend for me as a 28-year old whom has not had to do sciences courses like this since high school.

Cheaper and somewhat similar is lumosity.com. Their studies show it helps w memory and such. I thought the games were kind of amusing, though I stopped playing last summer bc I was too busy.

Finished up postbacc last year, SMP started this semester. (Combo program at Barry). Physiology, Histology, Biochem I, Health Law&Ethics. 16 credits is a heavy load! Plus 10 hrs of tutoring and 4 hrs of volunteering at ER. Also training for a marathon. At least I'm staying busy?

As of tomorrow 6 full weeks behind my back
Orgo I with lab: 4
Genetics with lab:4
Into to Mol Cell :3
Stats :3
Bio litt :3
Commute an hour each way to school.Work 2x 12hours night shift on Fridays and Saturdays. School Monday trough Friday. Married to the most supportive husban. With a little angel that wonders why Mommy is always at school
So far so good! Was very frustrated with genetics at first, and felt so overwhelmed I wanted to withdraw, but with we restrategize home life and so far we are back on track!

Synergy makes it work. 3am-6am are generally pretty slow at work; I'm usually able to get a bit of reading & homework done, plus the nurses / PA's / doc's are awesome in that most are willing to discuss whatever it is I'm currently studying. At the fire station we're usually done with chores and training by 10pm, so unless someone calls 911 I have that time as well. I also like to think that I have good study habits and am a good student, so I make the most of my time spent in class.

The support I receive from friends and loved ones is huge. I'd be flat out lying if I said I was getting into med school all by myself; the amount of people working to help me fulfill my dream could fill a house.

👍 A support system is invaluable when undertaking this journey. It's amazing you're working so much while doing all this!

I'm trying to do more stuff with the premed group at my school, and am finding it helpful to suffer together rather than alone on Friday nights.

Started a PCT job in the MICU (working nights) in August so I was only able to take one class. College Trigonometry for physics that I will be taking next semester with Organic Chem I. Yikes!
