Ever since I started university two years ago, I've only had A- , A+ and only 1 B+ I worked so hard to maintain a high gpa until I encountered a class I just couldn't get through.. A&P 2. I put so much effort into that class, I studied everyday, busted all nighters, went to tutoring & office hours. Nothing helped, I had a C in the class and failed my last test which got me down to a high D + Afted asking for advice, almost everyone told me to take the W and not risk having D on my transcript. So... I took the W, I feel like I failed myself, and my daughter (I'm a single mom) I've never given up, but I gave up on that class...

Will dental school's see W's as a bad thing?
Do I still have a chance of getting accepted anywhere?
Has anyone taken this course? What advice can you give me ?(I have to retake it)

Edit; forgot to add, I'm a pre dental hygiene student. I was going to change my major to pre dental....but I'm having second thoughts

Edit: ahhh thank you so much! You guys are seriously the best. I feel so much better 🙂

I''m pre med, but the general consensus is that a up to 3 W"s won't hurt you, just try not to get another one, and do well in the class the next time ( at least a B+). Also, why are you taking A and P II? I don't think it a dental pre req, or are you an nursing major?

No, pre dental hygiene. I was going to change to pre dental, ( A&P will still be required To be taken as an elective) but after seeing I couldn't pass this class i kind of changed my mind lol.

I dropped multiple classes and still got accepted. A&P is no joke. Are taking it at a CC or 4 year college?

You are way too hard on yourself. We all run into classes that break us and don't seem to click no matter what we do. I felt the same way with GChem II and I ended up taking a W; now I am going to dschool in the fall. This W won't affect your transcripts and mine was never mentioned in my interviews. If you want to pursue a career in dentistry, do not let this class define your affinity to dentistry because there is far more to it than A&P.

Don't let one class limit yourself from doing something else you want to do. If it wasn't hard, everybody would do it.

I dropped Gen Chem 2 and for a short period gave up on dentistry completely. Needless to say I'm glad I stuck it out. You will be too.

EDIT: Situations like this is why I have the quote in my bio.

I failed gen chem 1 and got an A. I withdrew from gen chem 2(summer) and got an A.

Currently a second year dental student, top half of my class. You would be a failure if you walk away completely for this particular reason. Anything else, you're just beating your self up. You came a long way and on top of all your other stresses, you're a single parent. Cut your self some slack, regroup, collect your thoughts and figure out your next move. AP its a difficult course, but like anything in life, the person in charge can make it or break it. Don't use this one experience as a testament to your abilities.

My mom was a single parent. It isn't easy. You've done your daughter proud.

I had 3-4 W's in my transcript. One of my friends had an F in orgo I. We both got into several schools

I got my first W in my last semester, felt like a failure too but I did get into 1 school this cycle 🙂 You'll be okay.

A failure is the person who doesn't even try. You tried. That course was a bit much this attempt. Oh, well. Pick up and keep moving forward.

A single mom who is going to school to try to establish herself in a career that could change her family's whole life is not a failure over dropping a class.

As long as you get a good grade in retaking class, you're good.

Pulling out for damage control is much smarter than trying to be someone who never gives up and just shoots themselves in the foot. You did all you could and then made the smart decision of dropping. A w is not a good thing of course, but better than a D..

I feel your pain with my class right now. my back is hurting me, I have been practically sitting for hours now searching for the solution for this hard problem that the professor just assume we know how to answer . It's so ridiculous, why would he put hard homework questions and expect us to answer when he himself can't.
I feel so upset, and I am struggling, I had thoughts of dropping this class, but I want to graduate early.
But you did fine dropping the class. Definitely, W is so much better than a D, as it does not affect your GPA, plus next time you repeat the class, you do so much better, but if you don't want to be a hygienist, so why take it?
Best of luck, and you are not a failure, you are role model, your daughter is so proud of you 🙂
