Final Word from Mount Sinai?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I interviewed on Nov. 5th and I called the admissions office today as well to find out when I would get a decision. The woman said it would probably be another 3-4 weeks until I hear so I am guessing only up to Nov. 2nd interviews have been decided upon. Im not positive however because the woman I spoke with did not seem like she really knew what was going on. Guess I just missed up cut-off date, bummer 🙁

Interviewed Nov. 5th too, I am pretty sure they told us that we wouldn't hear anything until the end of November or beginning of December, as long as both our interviewers attend all the meetings.

How does the process work with the interviewers? They attend the weekly meetings and report on your interview to the committee?

I am not sure exactly how that works, I just remember them telling us that if all goes well and either both interviewers attend all the meetings, or if one attends and they both agree then we will know by early Decermber.

i am very confused. i called and the lady told me they had not made a decision about me yet. ummm hello... i interviewed the FIRST week. don't lie to me. i want to go there so bad. i am very frustrated. she said more decisions are going out later in the week. i have no idea what to think. 😕

I interviewed the first week as well and didnt get an email :scared:....And like you, its basically my top choice

Maybe well end up hearing soon? (I REALLY hope so)... Anyway, Maybe your interviewers couldnt make it to the ADCOM meeting so that your file was deferred to the next one?

i will let you know if i get the snail mail waitlist notice. :scared:

they said they discuss files for the previous week's interviewees during their weekly tuesday meetings, if both interviewers are present.

last friday's adcom meeting was to make decisions on offers for people they had discussed during those tuesday meetings — so technically anyone who interviewed before tuesday, nov. 13th, should have been at least reviewed already. i'm assuming they defer some decisions to the next meeting if they're not sure. the committee meeting happens once every 4-5 weeks, they said, so the next batch of decisions should be released before christmas.

so out of all the people on sdn that interviewed in october only like 8 got in? i am confused. it's 4pm. no one heard anything today from them? sorry. i am stalking mount sinai. 😳

Don't worry... you aren't the only one... Ive been checking my email every chance I could...

Yet still nothing from Sinai.... Its not looking too good :scared:

Same here, unfortunately. I was hopeful when they said they'd be sending out acceptances later this week, but apparently that was just a lie...

I hate to break it to you, Parvati, but just because you didn't get an acceptance doesn't mean they were lying. There is another possible explanation. I'll just let you mull it over.

I understand that I might not get an acceptance. However, when they said they'd be giving out more acceptances this week and no one on SDN posted that they received one, I am skeptical that they even did. Maybe that secretary was misinformed or something.

I hope those of you that were waiting on word from Sinai finally did get some good news...I was fortunate enough to get the nod this past Monday.

Quick question if any of you guys were aware...for accepted applicants, does Sinai hold any sort of a "second look" weekend/trip like some other med schools do? I'm like 95% sure this is the place for me, but I would love to get another chance to visit and check it out just to make myself absolutely sure of it. Any info would help, thanks.

i interviewed nov 8th and was accepted nov 19th if that helps anyone.

I interviewed on 11/5 and was told that we would know by the end of November...Still haven't heard anything so I guess that means the waitlist will arrive in the mail by the end of the month....

There should be a second look weekend, as they have occurred in the past. I haven't heard anything to the contrary, and it should occur sometime in April.

has anyone gotten a snail mail reply yet (good or bad news)? If so, when was it postmarked?

i wonder if they sent out all their acceptance emails yet. i'm so nervous! but the weird thing is, i interviewered nov. 5th but the woman i talked to when i called mt sinai said that my application was still "under review" and that no final decision was made yet. gaaaahhhh.... so confusing....

Let's hope that any of those who receive a snail mail letter from MSSM next week will post their results on this thread.

Whoolietta, when did you call?

i called last monday, the day some acceptance emails started to go out...

I also interviewed the week of nov 5th. I called today and they told me that no decision had been made yet...

There's hope for us yet!

How do you guys compare MSSM to other NYC schools such as AECOM, NYU, P&S, Weill, etc. and why? It seems difficult to really differentiate the schools on the macro scale.

Does snail mail letter automatically mean waitlist or rejection? As in, if you are accepted, will you always know first via email?

they give you snail-mail notice regardless of your decision. they only let you know if you got accepted via email for "instant gratification" (their words, not mine 🙂 ). hopefully we'll hear from them soon!

I haven't yet interviewed at other NY schools (have three coming up in December) but I was very impressed by Sinai. The students seemed happy (all loved the P/F curriculum), the facilities and overall program seemed strong, the location on Central Park was great, and I hear that the housing is better than NYU and P&S.

Has anyone heard NETHING since coming back from Thanksgiving break? I am checking my e-mail even more than usual this week. I interviewed the first week of November, and I was told we would hear by the end of Nov., and I REALLY loved Sinai during my interview day

nothing here yet 🙁 i'm really confused because i heard that early nov interviewees would know by the end of the month about the final decision. anyone get anymore acceptances/snail mail news??

A.) It's not the end of the month. In case you aren't sure, the end of the month is November 30.
B.) I was told by the adcom end of the month/early December.
C.) Don't post on this FREAKING THREAD UNLESS YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY.

I am anxiously checking my email too. Stop bumping this thread to the top and making me think I was rejected.

ben, calm the hell down, you aren't the only one freaking out here.

some people are so inconsiderate.

interviewed 11/5, had some trouble with my e-mail but ended up getting the acceptance e-mail on Monday of this week (was suppossed to get it last week)...I have heard that they are known for reviewing out of order so I think there is less room to freak out if someone else has heard back and they interviewed after you...

So I just talked to my mother and I guess I am the first person to receive the snail mail letter....

I have been placed on the alternate list... I guess that's better than a rejection. 😕 Anyway, Sinai is my top choice and really where I want to end up, so I don't really know how to proceed from here. Anyone know how this works. Anyone know anything about the wait list at Sinai?

According to the Dean of Admissions, definitely let them know it's your first choice. Do everything you can to keep them posted with updates, etc. If they go to the waitlist, it will help your chances.

Where did you receive the letter? Just so we can all know if ours are still on their way.

I got the alternate today by mail too. 🙁 too bad it was my first choice.

Even though I'm away at school, the letter was sent home to my permanent address.

Anyone know any stats on how frequently Sinai uses the alternate list?

me too. 🙁 top choice too. guess they dont like people that are really into their school.😕

Also got the Alternate Letter by mail today. I am disappointed since I loved the school, but not too much because it is better than a rejection, and don't most med schools use their waitlists frequently once May 15th comes anyways?

did all of you who got the alternate list letter feel like you had strong interviews? is there an alternate list and a wait list?

Hey, has anyone who interviewed the week of 11/10 or after received any responses from Sinai, or did Adcom not discuss us yet?

I got an email from mssm on the 19th with an acceptance, but have not recieved the offical snail mail acceptance yet. Interviewed in mid Oct

does anyone know what's the average proportion of rejected versus waitlisted? (not just at MSSM but in general for a school of that calibre)

Waitlisted as well 🙁

Looking at the mdapps from last year, it doesn't seem like anyone got rejected post-interview (in ~100 profiles I think there was one post-interview rejection). Obviously that isn't representative of the entire interview pool, but I guess it suggests that they do waitlist a lot of people. I think I heard/read somewhere that they took 40 people off the waitlist last year, but don't quote me on that...
Anyway, good luck everyone!

did anyone else receive their acceptance packet from MSSM yet? I just got mine today and am a little confused about the drug test paperwork. they want us to get this done before we definitely know we're enrolling? i thought a $100 tuition deposit was pushing it...

i'm so excited, my first acceptance! good luck to all potential future classmates.😀

Was anyone else waitlisted recently and greatly disappointed when they got an email from the MSSM that was their Dean's Report 🙁
I loved the school when I interviewed there.....sigh

I saw "update" in the subject and got so excited... yet im still on the waitlist

same here, that dean's report email was cruel. i'm so massively disappointed that i got waitlisted, especially because my second interviewer told me i was gonna get in!

Regarding the packet, I'm not sure if they want us to be tox screened now or before we matriculate. Also, its weird they want all of our transcripts already. Anybody have any insight on this?
