Hey everyone I was wondering if you folks know if one has been 1 day late on a credit card payment last month if that will not allow them to get all the loans they need for pod school through a private lender or GRAD plus? let me give you the scenario:

~50K in loans from undergrad (40K of this is from parent PLUS loan)
63Kx4 years for cost of attendance at cspm minus 30 in scholarships=222K

Need full cost of attendance loan money at least in the first year.

Stafford aggregate limit is around...? I think is 224 for medical students

So Im guessing that I wont need to take out more than about 8 grand of private sallie mae, wellsfargo type loans...what do you folks think?

ALSO do you know if your parent took out the PLUS loan if that is factored into the students aggregate stafford federal loan limit? cause that would mean the difference for me of 272000 with and 232000 with it NOT factored (which means id only need to take 8000 from private lender as opposed to like like 48000)...

And yes I called my school and they said just wait and see when my financial aid award packet comes in the mail...that's not a good enough answer for me. In fact that's not an answer at all to my questions.

If so that will be very harsh. But coming in from England, I don't know the first thing about the loans. But I need to find out ! Is there a resource I can check out that explains the whole business ?

Also, I wondered if, as a result of the credit crunch, are students having a tough time
getting loan approvals ?

You're probably okay.

Don't worry! I have been late a few times. Before I applied for student loans last year (I'm a first year student), i almost maxed out some credit cards to move out to school. I didn't have the best credit and had NO problems getting loans. I am married with 2 kids and my wife stays at home and doesn't work. No jobs with credit card debt and I still get loans. Will I still get loans? yes. I even qualify for GRAD PLUS loans. They know we are going to school, no jobs, and they will most likely get their money back, so not too many problems for us to get money. This could change though, maybe, we'll see.

One day late is not big deal, you have to be delinquent probably past 30 days for them to knock your credit. One day late just means they will reset your APR all the way back upto 29.9% and kill you with their interest.
