hey truth seeker...

i too m preparing for part 1..yet to schedule it probably in first week of april/..
yaa seriously we have to put in our best ..n give our best shot ..coz no retakes!
anywayz r u retaking the exam...
since hw long have u been preparing...
i have started with my biochem hope to complete it in a weeks time!
what all study material r u referring to..?
i think kaplans is sufficient for biochem plus decks n asda...

Good idea !! Iam studying Biochem these days and will be taking my exam sometime in march end. Lets keep it going and motivate each other. I have been procrastinating a lot though i had planned on finishing up biochem by jan 10th but seems like it would another 5-6 days to get done with it.
Hope to hear from all those people who are appearing in march/ april as well.

I take the initiative to have a thread for all those of us who plan to take the exam in the first half of 2010 . I'm myself taking the test on April 15th and its of paramount importance to stay motivated and put in our very best during this period of study. We all need to help each other, lest start the new year on a new note, and commit to ourselves to study and work real hard !
So lets all converge here and pool in our thoughts, our strategy , and other related stuff .

Am doing Anatomy right now and hope to be done within a week's time .

No second thought , its a difficult exam and we all badly need to stay in the same studying spree and maintain the flow of thoughts till we're done with exam.

hey ,terminal
am taking it for first time and i sat down with books for sometime untill i decided to ramp up my studying hours and revise my methods......chose to settle down with Kaplan , Decks , ASDA as main guide .
Material is not important, my conclusion from what i heard from people who aced the exam is , dont run after material, buut concise and basic concepts to be done with accuracy.
How many hours do you pool in.....and are you revising...am still in my juvenile phase of first round of studying !

welcome dental matrix ,
agree we all need to step ahead and boost our fellows beside us too . Dont worry it happens , we all study at our own pace, its better to take time and understand concepts than rush through the subjects . DO it well and we are all here to cheer each other up , when one feels low. Studying is strenuous !

Thanks Truth seeker.
Iam going through all the metabolisms in biochem ....making my own notes and trying to understand stuff as well as learn at the same time. So yeah the mind does wander around at times and its hard to concentrate for a longer period of time..but i guess thats the irony of studying for NBDE !!

hi i too m going through my first round....with just decks n kaplans...
will be done with biochem in 5 more days...n thn switch over to anat...i suppose ill be done with all once till 10th of feb ..

I am also going to be taking Part 1 for the first time. just started studying palnning to take in June 2010.

I just had a question, when you say 'Kaplan'...what exactly do you use from kaplan
Is it Kaplan notes or Kaplan review book or is it one and the same thing.....it confuses me

What all should we use from Kaplan..Can you please elaborate. I need to buy stuff from Kaplan...but not sure, what exactly I should buy. Can you please list the study material from Kaplan that I should buy and use.

I am studying biochemistry as well. Hope to be done with it by the end of the week. Then moving on to Microbiology. I am taking my exam on March the 17th. What about you guys? Have you scheduled your exam already?

I am studying from Kaplan NBDE Review Book, dental decks and released exams. What about you guys?

Dr SFO,
There is Kaplan for NBDE Review Book, which I recommend and also DentEssential which is not so good, it doesn't have enough information in my opinion but it is good for review, after you read Kaplan Review book. There is also Kaplan Usmle lecture notes that has also dvd's, if you can get them and they are pretty good. And Kaplan also has kaplan Usmle home edition organ systems(4 volumes) which is also good, maybe a little bit too much. From what I saw, Kaplan NBDE Review book and Kaplan Usmle lecture notes are very much alike but the one for Usmle doesn't have dental anatomy or histology, so if you want to buy one, than you should buy Kaplan NBDE Review book(it has around 1000 pages) and if you have dental decks and released exams and maybe First Aid NBDE you should be more than fine. I have settled for Kaplan NBDE Review Book, dental decks and released exams.

Hi Raluca....i also plan on taking my exam arund the same time in march.
Biochem should be done before the weekend and reading from the same sources as urs ! U find any part difficult or okie so far ?

i guess your doubts have been cleared , as far as sources are concerned, and i feel, getting started is the toughest part, once you do that, then, more or less you figure out which pattern of studying suits you . Depending on when you graduated and how much time you can afford and how much of substance you retain, you should wisely choose your sources !

i should be done with Dental Histology and by Almighty's blessings hope we all keep going till the D-day .

How many hours are you all able to put in ?

Sometimes it feels like life depends on this one exam , and still i end up wasting time ! UGHHHHH

I am having a hard time remembering all the enzymes. It is going very slow but I feel that I am starting to feel a little more confident. What are you planning to study after biochem? I still don't know if I should do Physio or Microbi.

I feel the same. Sometimes I feel that my life will be over if I don't get a good grade but that still doesn't prevent me from wasting time. I start very late in the day, around 10-11 and I try to study until 9pm and sometimes even later but i also have 2 young kids so it is very hard. I am at the library during the day because at home I couldn't accomplish anything.

I just want to wish all of you Best of Luck. May God be with you all the time and you all get what you deserve. Just keep motivated, even if you cant study one day, dont panic, just try to study more the following day. Stick to one main source and 2-3 reference. Dont wander too much. It is of no use. Whatever you read, read it thoroughly and clear your concepts. Reading less and carefully and thoroughly is much better than reading more but not thoroughly.
