So, current med students, how did you go about finding your roommate for M1? From meeting people at second look? Messaging people you thought looked cool/seemed similar to you (although this is pretty hard to judge) in your facebook "class of 20**" group?

I'm trying to gauge whether its creepy to just drop someone you dont even know a message on facebook asking if they want to live with you--seems a bit risky in terms of not having any idea if you will mesh well as roommates. Is it better to just wait until second look? (and with this, what about the people who cant go to second look, what do they do?!)

Thanks for any and all suggestions!

First of all I would just post in the FB saying you are looking for a roommate. Then look at whoever else has done the same, and message them. It is not random if they have already stated they are looking. Second look is nice if you can go, but by no means required. Another option is to try and contact current second years at your school since a few usually are open to having 1st year roommates as well.

Facebook class page. Pretty sure that's how almost all of my classmates (including me) found roommates, and there's really nothing creepy about it. Don't just message random people, rather you should make a brief post on the page introducing yourself and a couple pertinent things (like smoking/non-smoking, pets/no pets, etc) or respond to people who have made similar posts.

I've already had a girl ask me in the FB group for next year! I already had people to live with, so I had to decline. However, I did not find this creepy at all! It was just a friendly proposal!

I suggest you shop around but end up with somebody you can have lunch with.
