I was just wondering if anyone had any insight on this b/c I had applied to dental school while in a masters program but since getting in have thought about saving some of that tuition, time and stress and just not finishing the program and starting dental school in the fall. I've heard mixed reviews on this....tufts i hear makes you finish the program while i've heard some people at nyu just said they weren't gonna finish the program and it was okay with the school. I'm planning on going to temple...anyone know their policy on this? thanks!

I may be a bit confused on your situation, but as I understand it:

1: You have been accepted for dental school by Temple.
2: Temple, at this time, is under the impression that you are on target to get your masters degree before entering dental school this fall.

If that is the case, then I believe the ethical and safe move on your part would be to contact Temple and get their input on your tentative revised plans.

Andy (that's my name too! <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" /> ),

If Temple already accepted you, they'll take you next year regardless! UNLESS, it's stated in your letter of acceptance that you HAVE to finish your Masters!

Now, if YOU want to finish your masters then that's another situation! Temple will not extend an admission deferrment! So if your worry is that Temple may have problems with you not finishing your Masters, then don't worry, they don't care if you started a Masters and then stopped to start dental school!

If it's really a strong concern of yours, CALL Temple and ask for yourself. While you're at it, see if they want to accept another Andy! <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />

Andy,
I am in the same situation. I am currently in a masters program- but I only did that to improve upon my undergrad GPA for dental school. I have an interview at NYU coming up and if I get in, I am seriously considering just moving along into dental school and dropping the masters.

the situation was a little more sticky b/c my advisor for my masters is on a sabbatical this year and so he was out of the country most of fall and winter quarter. so basically i have to cram all of my research and my paper into 10 greuling weeks...=oP......neways....i'll see what I can do Yah zzz.....it sound's like you're in pretty good shape though with all those interviews....have you contacted any of the schools to check on the status of your apps?

good luck to you at your nyu interview Brian!....I hear it's a great place to study dentistry! let us hear how it goes...
-Andrew

hey brinm74...
have you told nyu that you don't plan on finishing your program yet?...and if so what was their reaction? just curious...=o)

No, I haven't asked NYU about that. If I get into NYU, I have full intentions of finishing up my masters this summer. I just need to move into high-speed to get it done.
