I know this subject has been talked about a lot, too much perhaps, but I'd just like a little personalized advice...Maybe get any opinions as to if my plan is good or not.

I am in the process of finishing up my prereqs at a community college in FL. I have completed most of the major ones minus Organic I & II , Anatomy & Physiology I & II , and Physics I & II . I hope to be ready to apply for Fall 2007 . As for classes during this summer, I am going to take A&P I this summer. I was contemplating taking Organic I also but I figured that I didn't want to push it too hard since I still have to work full time. I could probably do it but I wouldn't want my grades to suffer because I rushed through it. So, in the Fall I'd take Organic I and A&P II along with a couple of other filler courses (Economics, Foreign Language) as well as attempt to grapple the PCAT. Spring 2007, I was thinking Organic II and Physics I . Finally, the summer before school starts, Physics II (if it is necessary for the school I get semi-accepted to).

Currently I have a 3.7 GPA with a 3.5 prereq GPA. I guess the main deciding factor will be how well I do on the PCAT.

Thank you for taking the time to listen/read and any feedback would be appreciated.

for your physics II, make sure the schools you apply to will accept it b/c some schools want you to be finish with your science course the Spring before Phamacy school starts. Meaning, that they don't want you to go to summer school before the Fall semester start to finish a class so just check to be on the safe side. You wouldn't want to take physics and not have them accept it.

It seems like you got 3 of the hardest classes to finish up. Do you have to work full time? I used to work full time and go to school part/full time but it got to be too much so I quit my job to finish my prereqs.

If you can...and ONLY if you can quit your job so you can really focus on finishing these really hard classes, then I would say take Physics I and II plus the labs over this coming summer, I guess that would be session A and C (might be different at every school) then take A&P I and II and Orgo I and II plus labs during the regular Fall and Spring semesters. In my opinion, Physics and Orgo are very hard and would NOT be a good idea to take them together, unless you take those 2 classes only without any other classes. Besides those prereqs, do you have any electives that you need to take like Econ or Psychology or Sociology?

With the current amount that I am paying out due to bills, I am not yet able to drop the full time job. I'm in a situation where the gov't feels that my parents should be paying for my classes and what not but they cannot afford to due to their debt.

Maybe it would be smarter to use this summer to my advantage and take something else along with A&PI . The summer would seem like a waste with only one class. On the other hand, I could take it slow and pass each class without much hassle but that could mean I wait another year to get in. I know that some schools that I would like to apply to do not even require Physics such as Nova Southeastern. They don't even require A&PII if you take Bio II instead which I have. As for the elective prereqs, I have completed them all throughout my past two years 🙂 .

I am in a similar situation as well... just likely a bit older than the "average" student. I am 28, and I have already completed a Bachelors Degree (in teaching), and I am 90% completed on a Masters Degree (School Counseling). Go figure, I have realized while I love working with kids, I feel there is something missing in my profession. This is how I stumbled across pharmacy. Just like you, I have met all of the requirements with the exceptions of Chemistry (Regular and Organic 1 + 2 with labs), Physics 1, and Biology with lab. I initially had a goal of trying to get into Pharmacy School in 2007, but it is likely I will be waiting until 2008. My advice, especially since your working a full-time job is take no more than 2 classes if it is summer, and no more than 3 classes during each academic term. However, I would strongly recommend 2 considering the difficulty level of the classes you have left. Here is my plan to still try to get in for 2007:

Summer 2006 - General Chemistry 1/2 with labs

Fall 2006 - Organic Chem 1 with lab.
Biology 1 with lab

Spring 2007 - Organic Chem 2 with lab
Biology 2 with lab

Summer 2007 - whatever is left, if I actually get conditionally accepted during the application process.

Keep in mind, the PCAT is an important piece of the puzzle. Having taken at least the first class in Biology and Organic would be of great benefit in addition to the two regular chemistry classes. While the score itself does not eliminate the possibility of acceptance, it could quickly lower your interview opportunities if the score is low. In addition, I intend on getting a Pharmacy Technician Degree this summer and working in a pharmacy full-time for the next year or two as well to get experience in the profession. Basically, do everything you can in your power to build up reasons why they should accept you.

Don't know if I have helped or hindered your process here, but figured I would give you a perspective from a person in similar circumstances.

Good luck!
