UM has always been my top choice, I have lots of ties to the school and love it. On the other hand, FIU really surprised me. They're definitely very on top of the game there, very enthusiastic, and they have a great program (concept). I'm leaning towards UM but not decided yet. I will decide soon though to free up a seat, i know how much waiting sucks.

Congrats!!! Did you get a phone call from UM today? I got a phone call from their admissions office (I think the gentleman's name was Robert but the connection was poor and his voicemail was hard to understand) at around 5:50 this afternoon. I called them back as soon as I left work at 6 but no one answered. I'm going to call first thing tomorrow and I'm hoping for good news.

Thanks! Yea, it was a phone call. I got a call around 5:10 but my phone hung up before i answered. I called admin office and Agnes said their meeting just finished and they hadn't called anyone yet. Someone from the school called me at 5:40 - I think Robert? not sure and told me of the good news. From what I gathered, it seems they call the accepted soon after they meet. Don't count your chicken yet but i think it's a great sign. Good luck! :luck:
 
You guys post a lot. Some of us actually have to work 😉

I wouldn't think the Kaplan course is a + for Canada, if anything for Step 1 it goes in the negative bin with curling, Avril Lavigne, and pharms.

hah so cruel so cruel. I interviewed the same day as you and a similar thing happened to me. Class ended early and I came home to nap, and i woke up with a voicemail from miami. Called this morning but the guy wasn't in yet. Hoping for good news!!! :luck:

Yeah I called back this morning and the nice lady I spoke with said the Dean would have to call me back. I still haven't heard back and I'm definitely getting a little antsy...

Hey gujudoc, been busy here with first year, but just curious how the app cycle's been going for you? any interviews/ acceptances? I know how much you've helped everyone esle out on SDN (myself included for last years cycle)...anyways wish u the best of :luck:...keep us posted!
 
Could someone who has interviewed at FSU kindly let me know the details of the interview day ie. is there one interview that is 60 min w/ 1 interviewer, or 2 separate 30 min interviews, open/ partial open file etc.? I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks

Hi Kaya. At FSU you have two separate interviews and it is completely open file. I believe that each of my interviews lasted 45 minutes.
 
Hey everyone,
Ive been reading through the thread and searching for some info on Umiami MSM in Boca. I visited with the school this past xmas and loved the staff, thought the students were very pleasant and was really happy at the small # of students attending. I tend to learn better at a smaller school and i simply loved the atmosphere. So, its ultimately my #1 school but, Im OOS and i know that UM doesnt show much, if any love to OOS applicants. i had 2 questions, I will have 2 lor's from science prof's and ill be applying JUNE 1st. Im sitting for the MCAT jan. 31'st been studying 3 weeks already and im shooting for somewhere in the 30's if my AAMC practice exams arent in the 30's i wont sit for it until they are. but I was curious as to the mean GPA and MCAT scores were for that campus, the cost of tuition and what i will have to do to be accepted from OOS. i am also applying to DO schools because i like the philiosophy and other MD schools but as far as the school i feel i would be a good fit there. any help would be appreciated, thanx

wooohoooo! Congrats RSAgator. For those of you accepted at UMiami do NOT forget to send in BOTH an e-mail and a paper copy of the acceptance. Just a friendly reminder because they give you about 2 weeks to do it...

Mean MCAT in my year was 31.8 or something and I'm class of 2011. The GPA was also 3.78 or something, but that's funny cuz how did I get here?!!?

Also they do show plenty of love to out of staters, if you have good stats, so don't worry. It's about 40,000/year for OOS, but they often give you a $10k scholarship if they think you are stellar and many ppl have scholarships of varying amounts - you usually just have to ask before it's too late. Anyways, hope that helps for now.

Oh by the way dude, the mean mcat/gpa should be the same for both campuses, because the decision to accept you for an interview is made by the main campus. If you get an interview at one campus, you get an interview at the other. Acceptances are a different story.

Right, I know, but I'm tired. I do love Thanksgiving for the food, but going home with one of my friends means that I will sort of be obligated to follow their busy thanksgiving schedules. What I need right now more than anything is to curl up in a ball on my couch for a few days and recoop with some movies (just got home from blockbuster) and some books (leisure reading is so awesome...probably why I didn't do so great on my last test 🙂

I also didn't go home cuz it was expensive to go home and not even spend time with my family. They will be working and I missed Canadian thanksgiving - boo! So I sort of missed my mom's amazing dinner...
 
So, is University Inn and Suites that bad of a place to stay when visiting FSU? It doesn't look so bad, but my uncle said that there are signs in the rooms that say "if you throw up in the sheets you buy them"... haha but it is cheap! Advice, anyone? 🙂

I actually got an invite over to a party for my research team and it's in Kendall - that's not too far - and I get to be with other people who have nothing to do on Thanksgiving 🙂
