Yeah but that brings up a third scenario. Taking the mcat again this year puts me off another year, which I don't really want to do.
Yes and if you don't get in this year you are going to have to waste another year. And what do you mean you can't take the MCAT again this summer and submit those scores to schools for this round of applying????
I think you should retake it. 26 isn't bad but you are going to be competing with people who have 27-43 on the range of scores with most being in the 30-39 range somewhere.
Just think about that some.
Average score is 24-25 somewhere. Average score of acceptance in general is near 28, median score at most Fl. schools is roughly 29-30+.
I do know people who got in with a 26 in the past but that was like almost 3 years ago. You might have a shot at FSU with that score especially if you are disadvantaged. However, things have gotten a bit more competitive with USF in the last 2 or 3 years and the other schools. Even FSU is now getting people with 30+ scores mostly. They are increasing their averages slowly by becoming a bit more selective.
I'd personally take the time to take it again to be on the safe side. I'm not saying its impossible to get in somewhere with a lower score but your chances are not as great as the person who improves their score to a 30 or higher.
True to form, REL Larkin was always forthcoming with the information and always stated that I had a good change of ultimate acceptance, but I interviewed early and the wait has been long, but so worth it. I LOVE USF!!!
