Maybe what you meant to say is, "Then they get to the FSU students."
I am not sure what the post you are responding to is about, or what it was in reaction to, but I'd love to know where you get off telling another SDNer not to judge a school they "know nothing about" and here you are doing exactly that. And I bet it is because you consider UF to be the "Harvard of the South" or whatever. I came to Fla OOS from NY for college, so obviously I was not about to go to U Tampa or something. But I had never heard about UF being good or anything and as far as I knew back then, UM and FSU were the only schools worth going to as a NY resident going far from home.
Then I heard about UF and all of their arrogant cockiness. I heard all about how UF's matriculants have an avg SAT a few points higher than those @ FSU, and apparently b/c at that time, they were trimming down their class size (thus being more selective). Yet people @ UF would make it out like it was Harvard, and FSU was a community college. It was pretty funny but I was so happy at FSU and could not ask for a more friendly and incredibly fun school to study at.
In the past 4 years, I've met quite a few people who attend UF and they are quite disappointed in the way people act and the personality of the school. I bring them out partying with me and they cannot believe that literally NOBODY tries to belittle you, stare you down, start a fight @ every party. They told me the people at UF (not everyone, but the VAST MAJORITY) are rich spoiled brats from South Fla and they act like it too. A few girls I know don't have many girls as friends because they are apparently so snotty and stuck up and straight lame that anyone who isn't like that just can't get along with most of the people there. I found that to be pretty sad and am so grateful I went to a school with a really laid-back, outgoing, fun, friendly, down-to-earth student body. I'm glad I didn't know about UF when I was applying because I probably would have gone there under the hyped up impression of its program and been stuck rotting in the farms of gainesville until I got the hell out and transferred.
OH and by the way your classes are basically the same as ours, including the course codes and everything, with meaningless fancy names. For example, our prokaryotic biology class is also MCB4403, which you school's undergrad names it "fundamental genetics of microorganisms" or some other weird name. Then I saw that it was the same textbook we had.....saw my friend's notes and tests....it was no harder or different. If UF students are getting some southern IVY LEAGUE education, so are FSU's. A lot of my classmates were older since I took all AP's and they are MS1's at Duke (full ride), USC, Columbia (full ride), Vanderbilt, Texas, etc. Sure there are people at other schools, I don't know what everyone did but but obviously the TOP SCHOOLS aren't getting to FSU students last, so who gives a **** if UF is?
Lastly even the interviewers are snotty apparently, my BF's sister interviewed @ their dental program as a back up and they were SO RUDE I couldn't believe it when I heard it. But she could care less when she got interviews from every school she applied to and her 3.95/21 DAT is too good to settle for a program that greets you with pure unprofessionalism.
