Hi,

I am attending the FSA annual meeting this year, and was wondering how I could make the most of it as a medical student. It's my first conference as a medical student (M1) and wanted any pointers from anyone who has attended this conference or anything similar. I wanted to present but unfortunately did not make the deadline.

I'm not in Florida but the ASA and state societies are VERY excited to have motivated med students who want to get involved. I would recommend just keeping an eye out to see what all goes on and network as much as you can (just saying hi to people and introducing yourself goes a long way).

But yes it's true they can become a bore-fest and some people who aspire to leadership positions can be weird. Whatever the case, it's worth seeing what goes on.

Good on you to be proactive and ask.

If you can, go there WITH the department at your home institution. I’d there are poster sessions, see if you can present a challenging case (tag on with a resident or attending in the department).
Nice little CV booster and an opportunity to get on the radar of residency leadership.
There are medical student committees within the state societies, so look them up and see who the reps are at your school to learn how to get involved.
Good luck!
