For those current USC students....

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just got my 200 drugs list.
I just came back from vacation and apparently, I've been having issues with the post office and haven't been receiving some mail for the last couple months including the one this list came in. I am also unsure of what other important documents I might have missed from USC. I just got the White Coat Ceremony Information. Is there anything else I should have?
Also, if anyone could help me out with the drug list that would be great-but since I haven't contributed anything I understand. Finally, I am still looking for a place to live. If anyone knows of an opening or someone that is looking for a roommate please let me know! Thanks!!!! See you at orientation!

Financial aid package came in about a week ago....and we had to reply by Aug 2nd w/ a chosen lender. Hope its not too late if you call Fin Aid office and tell them your situation.

Hey Guys...

This is the plan for the Get Together:

We'll have dinner at PF Changs. I made reservations for 13 guests at 8:00pm, but arrive by 7:45 (please!! 🙂 ). PF Chang's is located on 260 E. Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena. Phone is (626) 356-9760 just in case you get lost. Its located in a shopping complex on the second floor (if i remember correctly). Dinner is a bit later than what i wanted (7:00), but that's the only time the manager would allow us to have reservations.

As for the activies.... i decided to throw out Mini-Golf for now... sigh... because having everyone drive all around going to Golf then dinner can create complications. We can hit up golf after orientation during the evening/night time when its cooler.

Instead... I propose strolling down Colorado Blvd, do some shopping and sightseeing. There are nice stores down Colorado and some people expressed their interest in shopping on the directory. For those interested.... Let's meet up around 5:30 in front of the shopping complex of PF Chang's facing Colorado. (I'll be there!!!)

After dinner activity... There's a Bar/Pub and a billards one block from PF Changs. We should all go get a beer or something and chat. It'll be a good way to get to know everyone and what not.... then we'll just play by ear from then on... there's a Movie theater nearby too... and other stuff.

Here's the list of people i have so far for the get together.

nivs22
ngmpr3ss
tanyas
muimui221
dloi
calgal03
synergeticsteve + 1
pandahuamei
kelly1180
pharmdgrl
zenguppy34 ( + 1 maybe)

Anyone else who wants to come, let me know. I'll add you to the list and expand the reservation. If I miss anyone, please let me know!!!

Hope this works for everyone. I'll send out the directory list on Weds.

Hmm.... anything else.... oh yeah... the reservation is under my name (see directory) or you can just look out for a short chinese guy 😀 .

That's it for now... see you guys next week.

What date are you guys planning on hookin up at PF Chang's? Me and BMB can come chill w/you if the dates are right.

Sorry... I forgot the date... It'll be this sunday August 15th.

Most of the stores and bars around old town Pasadena close early on sunday. If you guys want to walk and hang around Pasadena then I think saturday would be better.

Zen - I like your ideas. 👍 Keep up the good work!

hey guys, I was wondering if anyone sign up for the orientations. (not our pharmD orientation). I was just confused about the fees. Does anyone know what that's about?

hey guys,

are any of you who contributed to making the list against sending it to the people who got it late (2ndwish, etc...)? for most of us it wasn't that much work, and putting together the list now seems like a big task for a few people. let me know if there are any objections...you can email if that's better: [email protected]. synergisticsteve and dloi especially let me know, since you guys did the compiling. if there are no objections i guess i or someone else could email a copy.

hey nivs,

i've been thinking the same thing about the late comers as well. i have no objections to give them my share, but i can't speak for everyone else. nivs, thats a great idea to get a representative poll from those who have contributed. try to set a deadline, perhaps FRI 8/13 or something, and we can give them the good news or bad news by then.

greetings comrades!
this site is so cool! too bad i found it like..... now. anyways, see you all soon!

👍

I hope everyone is studying. I will soon post the drug quiz from last year.

hey nivs,
i have no objection to sharing the list with others 🙂

Hi group,

I am no problem sharing the list either. Happy studying!

as a reminder, last fall we had an extra credit pop quiz on the first day of biosystem. you do not need to know the specifics but you need to know the fundamentals.

For those of you who are receiving the Perkins/Pharmacy Health Profession Loan, have you received the Master Promissory Notes and Credit Report forms yet? I called the financial aid office today and they said to call another number to get more info. I'm just worrying a bit since settlement is coming up next week and I don't want to be running around town filling paperwork and all.

As long as everyone else is fine with sharing the top 200, I don't have a problem either. 👍

I received mine about 2 days after receiving my financial aid package (I am in Northern California right now). I know the school has the credit report form in the office on the second floor, but I'm not sure about how to get another copy of the Master Promissory Note.

Hey Guys,

In light of what BMB said about shopping on Sundays....Let's cancel the shopping/strolling at 5:30 and just do dinner and post-dinner stuff. Plus, it'll give people who are moving in this weekend more time to settle down in their apts.

Here's an updated list of people for PF Chang's

I haven't received the Master Promissory Note either.

i received my promissary note couple of days after the fin aid package.
how far are you guys in studying, i think i am way behind...🙂 all the drugs are screwed up in my head.......

the pharmacy school gave me a number to call, 1-213-740-4077, which connects you to the main financial aid office (located near the university campus). they said they sent out the MPNs last week (aug 2-6), so just explain that you haven't received yours, and they will send you the mpn/credit report right away. also, the pharmacy school said they will have duplicates on-hand on settlement day. but if you're like me, i'd like to have all my paperwork done and complete, so i can just turn it in on settlement day.

the studying is pretty difficult. i'm 1/2 way through the top 100, and all i can remember is the brand name, generic name, classification, and indication. the numbers for the strengths and directions keep getting jumbled in my head. any advice on how to make these numbers stick?

Did anyone receive orientation packet? Does anyone know what time we have to be there? I was told that the white coat ceremony has changed form 3 to 11 in the morning. Does anyone know if this is correct.

i haven't received anything for orientation yet. if i don't receive anything in the mail today/tomorrow, i'm going to call the student affairs office on monday. i can't verify whether or not the white coat ceremony has changed from 3pm to 11am, but that would be great since im planning to go to a hollywood bowl event later that evening.

the only thing i know about the orientation is that it's on 17th, no time or anything else...maybe we'll get something in mail

another question, do we need to register for our classes via telephone/online for the fall 2004 semester, or is it automatically done for us? there is conflicting information that confuses me. under the tab "registered course list" on oasis, i see all our classes listed, but when i got to the tab "permit to register" and click on the agreement link, it says that new students should register via phone/web, which i have not done. any help would be appreciated.

just wondering, in the email sent by Dr. Baron, where did everyone choose to do their externship experience for the fall? i figure most people are going to do their externship hours near school.

i chose near home, but i live not far from school

we dont need to register via phone...I called USC and they said we will register during orientation...I think tuesday and she said to be there at 7:30AM ( you might want to check with the time)

ok, latest news...i just called usc
orientation: tuesday - free parking in lot 71
Tuesday, Wed, Thursday - 8am to 4 pm. We have to be there Tuesday at 7:30 am.
The actual parking permits that we purchased are effective as of wednesday.
The white coat ceremony is at 11 am on friday

i got a letter today about orientation. it states that orientation is from
tuesday to friday, 8am-5pm. check-in at 7:30am at PSC lobby.

man! 8-5 everday! that's crazy...
plus i heard orientation was pretty boring...

Hi classmates!!!

about the mpn's.... i went into the fin aid office yesterday bc i was concerned i hadn't received the mpn either also i wanted to pay my tuition with my credit card so that i can get some travel points so i had to ask about that too. jesse- the fin aid director said that you can download the mpn online and he did it there for me. i just filled out the first form on the attachment below and turned it in to him and he said he would overnight it for me... i guess to make sure settlement goes ok. there may be a way to esign it but you may need to call jesse to ask

http://www.mohela.com/ESign/

http://www.mohela.com/Misc/Form/Form_StaffordMPN.pdf

as for the perkins promissory note- the one that came with the small manila envelope- i haven't done anything with mine because i was confused with it and so i showed it to jesse and he said just to bring it to settlement and i could turn it in there.

about the studying- i'm still working on it... i think i've got about 30 down no prob... but the others i've been working on. my plan is: 1 therapeutic class a day and master each class... its hard though bc some classes are really huge/all sound the same (i.e. ace inhibitors... ) 😳 first i memorize the names within each class then i memorize dosing. my husband helps me out alot and quizzes me while were driving around and just reminds me all the time. its just wrote memorization man!! its hard! but i guess we have to just keep exposing it over and over again until its in the long term memory. so boring!! 😴

one more thing, one of our "R" , required texts is available online... you can download each chapter and print it out... if you have acess to a printer that you can print wildly off of with out worrying about ink... (not my case) then it can save you 30 bucks. 😎 the weblink is attached below.

see you guys soon!!! 😍 😍 😍 😍

For the top 200 drugs, does anybody know the difference between #59-HUMULIN and #153-HUMULIN R? Are we supposed to know all the humulins (R, N, L, U) for #59 and then just the R for 153??

Also, does Roxicet come in liquid or tablet form? I thought 5/325 oxycodone/acetaminophen tabelt was Percocet...

thanks for your help!

Hey Guys,
I'm sorry I couldn't make it tonight. I was really looking forward to seeing you guys, but my brother got into a car accident. So I hope you guys understand. And I am looking forward to seeing you guys at orientation.

it was great seeing everyone last night- sorry we couldn't stay for dinner. i'm sure you guys had a blast! didja go anywhere else afterwards?

well, this is our last day of freedom so lets take advantage of it!! i think i'll be sipping a drink poolside 😎 with my... uh... err... flashcards? 😴

excited to see you all on tuesday!! :hardy:

hey tanyas, thanks for the clarification! Do you know anything about the humulin insulins?

For Zithromax susp, I have the pediatric dosage down as 10mg/kg/day on Day 1 and then 5mg/kg/day on days 2-5.

Just a little FYI...the PDR is definitely not the best place to look up drug information. The PDR is basically a giant advertisement. Companies pay the PDR publisher to "advertise" their drug to doctors. It's the same information as in a package insert, and could be a little biased. I would recommend the Drug Information Handbook or Facts and Comparisons. Good luck. 👍

It was an esteemed pleasure to meet all you guys that came by the booths. I was very impressed. Hopefully, I'll meet the rest of you over the coming days. I'll be there tomorrow for big sib stuff. Congratulations to all of you. You've made an excellent choice.

I was thinking that we should get together on Sunday 8/22 sometime and review what we know. The Norris Med Library is open from 9am to 10pm on Sundays. Does anyone know if we can reserve a private room in there and how to do it?

hey guys, here are some corrections I found on the drug list:

Neurontin: capsule-100,300,400 mg; tablet-600, 800mg (900-1800mg/day in 3 doses)

Glucotrol XL: extended release tablets-2.5,5,10mg

Levaquin: infusion-5mg/ml; injection-25mg/ml; tablet- 250,500,750 mg (250-750mg every 24 hrs for 7-14days)

thanks for the clarification!

good luck on studying!
Just FYI, the Glucotrol XL IS extended release (non-XL would be normal release).

There is no "levaquin" ophthalmic that I know of, but there is "Quixin" (levofloxacin).

I don't know how your list is setup....

You need your ID card and go to the front desk and tell them you want to reserve a room --- they'll help you from there 🙂

Since we need to study for our Biosystems I (physiology) extra credit pop quiz on Monday, I'm planning to go over to Norris Med Library tomorrow and try to reserve a room for Sunday afternoon. If you have preferences for a certain time, please post, otherwise I'll ask from about 1pm to 6pm on Sun 8/22. ALSO, please post if you can make it or not so I can get a head count. Thanks.

Hi all,

Do we have class on next Monday afternoon (8/23) even though we don't know our rotation schedule till the 27th? In the yellow sheet "First day of classes for yr 1, 2, and 3", it lists the first meeting for Dr. Baron class is 8/23. 😕

Thanks!

Steve,
sunday works for me....what exactly are we planning to study? Can I bring a few other students?
with regards to Dr. Baron's class, I had the same question - I am planning to ask Jim tomorrow.
