i plan on studying dentistry in a foreign dental school in Asia. 6 years of study will qualify me for dental work. however if I wish to pursue specialty training in the US, will I be eligible for direct entry, or will I have to complete 4 years of dental study in the US first?

Hi
Many speciality programs will take foreign graduates. Hospital bases programs may need because they receive funding based on US citzenship and graduation from approved US schools.

For licensure each state varies... many require graduation from a US school.. or special 2 year programs.

Which school are you going to in China?

Has outsourcing reached dentistry ? Are US dental school graduates not good enough for our residency programs? Is it fair that we need to compete agaisnt the entire world for our own universities? Comments?

Hi
Unfortunately we have a need for dentists is certain locations. California was looking at a school from Mexico. Minn. has it easier to get a license. MOST STATES DO NOT. MOST REQUIRE and ADA provided dental school.

For resdency programs - there are often many openings, especially in the very large programs... but funding is generally only for American trained graduates. Many university graduate students are given to foreign grads - some based on affilations, some on openings.

We are a funded GPR and only take approved candiates from ADA accrediated schools (US/Canada).

Each dental school is different... some foreign schools are similar others... well are different.

Residents are competive... but there are always openings.

This year we went to 10 residents.. and next year, we are deciding id we drop back to 9 or expand to 12.
