Down is not inherited, it's a chromosomal nondisjunction. On the other hand, Fragile X is x-linked inherited disease (CGG; anticipation; hypermethylation).

The way I see it, Down is the most common cause of intellectual disability, period. Fragile X is the most common inherited intellectual disability.

Just double-checked my notes and I agree with you. DIT actually says Down's and Fragile X are the #1 and #2 most common GENETIC causes, not #1 and #2 inherited.

As far as I'm aware, FAS is the no.1 cause of intellectual disability; Down is the no.1 genetic cause (less frequent than FAS), and fragile X the no.2 genetic cause. That would make fragile X the no.1 inherited cause, right?
