For all the new attendings, how are you liking your new gig compared to life as a resident?

I like it overall. The toughest part is getting used to working with CRNAs. They have a lot of independence at my new institution, and some are a little heavy handed with their "sedation." I think I'm getting the hang of it though.
Didn't have much exposure to CRNAs before this -- only 2 in my residency and they weren't very good. These guys seem better trained as far as skills are concerned, but still more technician like, at least in their preops (checking off stuff but not expanding on the pertinent positives).
how long do you think it would take for me to learn TEE?1 week into it...So far much fun. It has been nice not having someone micromanage your every decision. The hard part is not turning around and doing the same to the CRNA. I did my first solo cardiac case this week. Between getting the TEE done and the faster speed of the private surgeons, and then all the paperwork it was definitely challenging. I am so used to having extra hands to do the case and electronic charting.
Compared to training also a real slant toward billing issues. Found out that more of the older partners were most concerned when i forgot to sign a record and it delayed them getting the case billed.
I feel i am getting more respect from the surgeons and nurses throughout the hospital. Actually the cardiac case i did was a request by the surgeon b/c i was facile with the TEE (funny b/c i did a CCM fellowship not cardiac, also great to get a request case in my first week)
For my first Epidural in 1.5 years, it was thoracic, it was weird not having someone standing over your shoulder. The worst part of all of it was figuring out the new standards for taping it in.

would like someone to teach me. nobody here can teach me.

Feels great. So far, lots of regional, a couple supra renal AAA (third day), younglings above 2 y/o. Surgeons are cool. Got out by 12:00 twice last week. Start CT in August. Got my first pay check 🙂. Taking the boards in one week. Enjoying the new house, car and German shepherd puppy. And.... My wife gets me out of the OR for breaks.
Life is soooooo much better.
Definately worth medical school/residency.
