But it's also FUN! From someone who likely would've really enjoyed construction in another life. That usually takes twice as long and involves at least one unplanned run to the hardware store. I still do it though.

When I took the BS MBTI (for no other reason than talking to others about it during a party) under career it told me to prioritize jobs in construction and avoid the helping profession.
I'd like to think I would have been a high rise crane operator if things were different.

Anyone have any fun holiday weekend plans?
The university affiliated with my AMC hosts a MLK remembrance march on Monday. I have been participating in them for the past 7 years or so and always encourage people to look into local ones in their area. They provide a very nice moment for both light exercise and mindful reflection; two things we always encourage in psych 🙂.Anyone have any fun holiday weekend plans?
Hope you are having a good weekend too!

Nothing crazy. May sneak a lunch time date with the wife as the kiddo will not be home and planning to do some touch up painting around the house.

I just got back from my partner's place overseas. Planning on doing some very light reading and being a couch potatoe before the semester inevitably ramps up.
Tried to the honey chipotle mozzarella sticks from Chili’s because of all the hype online, and they were definitely not worth it. 🙁
Stay safe from Winter Storm Fern, folks. It looks like a bad one.

Yeah, it's really cold here (-33 windchill), which is bringing me back to my grad school days.
Was just in Singapore where it was 88 and very humid (spouse is Singaporean so I visit their family during the Christmas break). The whiplash from this extreme to the other and back again has been ... I'm just amazed I'm still functioning.Yeah, it's really cold here (-33 windchill), which is bringing me back to my grad school days.

We're hearty folk. We're more worried about ICE shooting us in the face here than we are about a cold snap.

Has ICE operations impacted your work at all? Someone in the psychologist testing group was talking about Minnesota universities going remote, which impacted their grad classes.

Nah, most of my patients are old white folk, and my legal work is mostly younger white folk. Don't get too many undocumented or protected status migrants launching too many personal injury lawsuits here.

And you wanted me to move there...
Don’t know about you all, but I’m having a difficult time with this ICE stuff. Watching the news and having to actively process this is present day US and not Nazi Germany or the like…The guy shot by ICE in Minneapolis was apparently a VA ICU nurse.

I can understand the sentiment. Everyone compares this to Nazi Germany. The truth is that this is classic America. Just one that we have forgotten. Look up the book "White trash: the 400 year old untold history of class in America" . Replace slaves with latin immigrants and you will see us repeating our own history. America wants cheap servant labor. It just doesn't want those cheap servants to grow in numbers large enough to displace the existing power structure.

Come on, it's fun. Pepper pellets don't hurt all that bad, and gas masks are cheap.
Afroman was victorious and it's almost Friday!
I saw the video of the lawyer questioning (cross examining?) him and EESH, that did not go well for the lawyer. All of the attorneys I follow on BlueSky were saying it was brutal.

It did not go well at all. I have been told ithe whole thing is worth watching, so I may do that during contact naps.I saw the video of the lawyer questioning (cross examining?) him and EESH, that did not go well for the lawyer. All of the attorneys I follow on BlueSky were saying it was brutal.
Is this on the Youtubes?
What’s everyone up to this weekend? It finally feels like spring here today…after the past few weeks of torrential rain, snow, freezing temperatures and damaging winds!
It is! I haven't started watching, but I plan on checking out @ImNotALawyerBut for her commentary. Is this on the Youtubes?
I enjoyed Anthony Fantano's take.
I spent the greater part of yesterday evening going down a rabbit hole into Paul Bowary's case.
tl;dr IMG resident takes the Step 3 licensing exam (the last of 3 to be able to practice as a physician in the states), fails twice. Fakes a score report to show that he passed, and applied for a license. There was a lot of back and forth between the USMLE and the courts and in the end, the resident successfully dragged it out long enough that he took the Canadian medical exam (which is accepted in Rhode Island but not in all states) and ended up getting his license to practice by circumventing the Step exams entirely.
He's still practicing today. as a psychiatrist.
A wonderful case study in personality disorders.

Mostly whatever my wife tells me I am doing. I believe tomorrow is garage clean out and Sunday is a kids playdate. Need to find time to sneak away and install a car seat in the new convertible. Kiddo is dying to take a ride.
Pretty standard: Book club tonight, spring yard clean up, and date night on Sunday. Might do a whiskey night on Saturday, but I'm ambivalent.
Auditioning for a summer show with a local theatre group tomorrow afternoon, then seeing a professional musical theatre production at our local performing arts center in the evening.
What's up folks? Anything fun going on in your world this weekend?
Back from 2 weeks in Rome, Naples, Sicily, Malta and Barcelona. Great trip and amazing food! Back to work Monday to pay the bill.

I am trying to have a boring weekend, but the people around me keep wanting to do stuff.
You've just summed up most of my life.
Working, cooking, rye cocktails or wine, running, reading random medical journals, reading weird books, ranting to psygal about some nonsense that no one cares about, cuddling with psypuppy, playing fetch with psycat, etc. Interested in Cyanobacterias role in ALS.
Traveling! A lot of med school graduations this weekend so I'm flying out to support a friend at one.
playing fetch with psycat,
I am very impressed that you've taught your cat to play fetch.
Exhausting weekend at the state endorsement convention.
Playing hockey Friday morning. That's a big advantage of living in Canada- the city operates dozens of municipal ice rinks and they have old people (55+) pick-up hockey (which they call "shinny") every morning. It's 90 minutes, and only costs a little over $5 Canadian per game. Been skating 4 morning per week before week. Down 35 pounds since moving here 6 months ago ( though that could also be from the cheap watery Canadian beer and total absence of bourbon, eh). Polish Festival in the city square across the street all weekend, so golumpkis, kielbasa, and maybe some Polkas in my future!

Trying to corrupt us with your public services and common decency? How Canadian. We don't do that here in 'Murica.
