Has anybody heard anything from FSU lately?

Nope, I haven't heard anything. We should be hearing something soon, since their last day of interviews is Friday.

Good luck to you and everyone else that's waiting!
:luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

Yes, as Trully mentioned, their last intervie date is March 27th (that's what they told me yesterday) and after that the committee will rank the hold list and start pulling people from it as applicants submit withdrawals. I'm tired of waiting!!!! :meanie: It's not fun.......

Good luck to all waiting to hear from FSU.

Does any of you guys know how many ppl are on the hold category at FSU. I have the impression that there way too many ppl on the waiting list right now. At this point I would guess that all the spots have been filled and acceptance of waitlisted applicants will depend on other ppl deciding to go to another school. What do you think about this? Does any of you know how many ppl are on the hold list and when they start pullig files from the waiting list?

In April, many UF kids will probably be getting into UF off the hold list and give up their FSU spots. So around mid April there will be some movement. You still have two months for the waitlist to shift around. I am sure that they will have to take many applicants off of their hold list. Not to mention: many other schools will be showing movement soon as well.

Question- is the early orientation day at FSU binding in any way? It's on April 14th, before UF puts decisions out...

I'm still waiting for FSU to send me a financial aid package (they send they would have an answer for me two weeks ago). Unless its a really good deal, I'll be giving up my spot, so there's one more spot open.

Also, the deadline for students to choose/drop FSU is April 15, due to the early matriculation at FSU (i.e. the waitlist should REALLY start moving then).

No the re-visit day is not binding. The May 30th orientation day is. I'm going to go to see everything again. I wouldnt do anything to jeopardize my hold spot for UF.

I am just wondering, what does that deadline really mean? Is it binding? For instance if someone chooses FSU by April 15th, but then the next week they are accepted to another school that they wanted to go to more. Can they still drop FSU?

Ok. So April 15th you have to tell FSU you are going there or not. Then if you get off a waitlist you can drop them but only until May 30 (their first day of orientation). If you go to that orientation, you are committed.

Yes. You can hold on to your FSU acceptance and an infinite number of waitlists/pending decisions. However, once you are accepted somewhere else, then you have to drop that acceptance or your FSU acceptance.

Ok. Thanks Turquoisey and Runner, that was very helpful. But let me just ask another question, so that I make sure I understand. After April 15th, you can't hold on to the FSU acceptance and be holding on to other acceptance(s) at other school(s)?

-->Nevermind this post. Runner you answered my question. Thanks!

So this is for those of you that are on the hold list:

I talked to someone in the office today and she confirmed that today is the last day of interviews. She said that they had not made any decisions on people that are on hold and that they should be making decisions about those people by the end of the week. I also asked her as to whether or not we would be ranked this week. She said no. They will go through and choose people from the hold category. Then I asked her again would they be ranking us first. And she said that we were already ranked before we received an interview.

So Good Luck to everyone on hold!!! :luck: :luck:

To anyone on the waitlist...I'm withdrawing my acceptance today, it should get to FSU in a few days....Good Luck!

So anyone going to the second look in April?? Do you think a lot of people are going to go?

Soooo for those of us on hold, will some of us receive an acceptance, rejection, OR will all of us on hold be automatically ranked on an alternate list? And if we are on a ranked list when will people start receiving calls and taken off the alternate list? Thanks 🙂

Well, she made it very clear that we were already ranked. And as of last week, someone else told me that the class was not full yet. But they were extremely close. Which means after the last interviews last week and yesterday there is a possibility that they could fill up the class with those interviewees. So in that case, even though she said that they would start looking at the hold list by the end of the week, no one can come off of it until people start dropping their acceptances. And from what Turquoisey and Runner have said a few posts ago, there should be a lot of movement after the April 15th deadline.

Okay, so we should expect to hear something regarding an acceptance following the April 15th deadline? Thanks TrulyBlessed!!! 😀

I'm under the impression it's mandatory for all accepted people who wish to hold their spot. (Did you get that e-mail they sent out yesterday?) They actually call it "early orientation", although I guess it's more of a "second look" if it's not binding...

Yes i did get the email. It is definitely not binding. It is a second look or an early orientation, but its definitely not binding. Our real orientation starts May 30th. Also, I am not sure if it is mandatory... I dont think it is...but you should call and double check.

No problem.
Good Luck!!! :luck: :luck: :luck:
Let us know when you hear something!

Just sent off my withdrawal. Also, I had an award of 1k/yr (don't know if everyone gets this), so that frees up some $ for someone else (I know its not much, but its SOMETHING). Best of luck to you guys! I suspect the list will start moving quickly soon :luck:

Well, for those of us waiting to hear from FSU at the end of March--

I have not heard from them much since january... Anyway, there is a small lack of input from applicants from Florida, so i just wanted to make a post too : )

I better add: I qualify number-wise to get accepted, so I think that it has a lot to do with my relatively late interview, and maybe just their processes in general.

Are there any FSU Students who have any good/bad things to say???

I hope to hear something soon 👍

I'm thinking we (hold candidates) shouldn't expect anything until next week around the normal T or W meeting of the committee. I called earlier this week and that's what I was told.

Anybody know if they release your rank, like they do at USF? I'd kind of like to know if I even have a shot. I'm confident they'll pull a good amount of people from the waitlist, but not too confident where I stand on it. I'm "on the fence" at USF, and believe it or not, this mitigates my worries at that school.

I called yesterday and was told the same thing as always....the committe has not reached a final decision

Same here, I got an email with the company line: committee will now review hold applicants to fill remaining spots. No news. I'm curious how many people are in this hold category.

that's odd because I didn't received that email. I called yesterday and the lady who I spoke with didn't have any information whatsoever about the rankings, not even of how many peple were on the waiting list as of right now, which is surprising to me. I fear that there are more than 250 students on the waiting list, making the competition kind of tough. Anyways, I've been reading here in the thread that there is this unofficial April 15th date in which the list really starts moving, I really hope this is true. In any event, if any of you have more informative stuff, don't be afraid to enlighten this forum.

Best of luck to all of you waiting....

When did you receive the email...I just checked mine but I did not get anything from FSU

I fear the same thing...I know about 10 people personally who are on hold at FSU.

Not only that, people in the FSU waiting list are people like me for example, who have not yet gotten accepted anywhere else and the chance of them declining that acceptance is minimal...

There is nothing else to do but wait....I kind of deserve this for not making my best effort while an undergrad...Listen and learn kids...stay in school

I can echo those feelings. I gave up calling FSU and now I just send email questions, so that's why you didn't get the email. The troubling thing from what I understand is that there are a number of people all ready on the waitlist, and many more of us on hold. Since FSU is still growing it makes any predicting uncertain.

OHHHH I didn't know there was a wait list already. I was under the impression that all of us who were not accepted outright were placed on hold, and the waitlist would be formed AFTER they reviewed all of the applications. So you mean we are currently HOLDING for a spot on the waitlist??? That seems bleak

I'm not sure if there are over 250 applicants on hold, i thought that FSU only interviewed a small fraction of their applicants, something like 200 get interviews??? unless they are expanding their class size greatly this year? or they only filled a small fraction of their class size, and put all of us on hold...which seems silly to me and frustrating!!!! 😕

I'm almost positive they are having a class of 100 students, so I'm sure they interviewed many more than 200 applicants. I could be wrong, but for some reason, I thought I remembered hearing that they interviewed 400 or something like that.

During my interview I was told that the class size will be about 100 this year, and that they were planning on interviewing about 300 candidates. So if they accepted the top 100 students that would leave approx. 200 of us on hold. Lets pray for a lot of movement at UF and UM because I know many people are using FSU as their backup.

Oh wow, i didnt know they were interviewing that many people. But it also stinks if that many people are on hold, if not more!!! i hope there is some movement soon too 😀

When I interviewed in early Feb. they told me it would be about 300 interviews. I'm not sure though....maybe they decided to increase the number of interviews... Why does this process have to be so vague?? Why won't they just tell us you are # so and so on the list and our class is so and so % full

Anyhow, GOOD LUCK TO ALL

I'm not positive about the 400 so don't hold me to my word. I interviewed back in October, so I don't really remember. I just knew it was much higher than 200.

Yeah I think the interview pool increased this year because they had like 1000 more apps. They interviewed 350-400.

I was just wondering about your opinion on the early start date at FSU COM. I was accepted here, but am on waitlist at GW, VCU, and USF. But each school says that I would probably hear about my waitlisted status (whether accepted or not) in mid June. By then, i'd already have been locked in at FSU because of early anatomy. Don't get me wrong, I was impressed with the program at FSU. I would probably only prefer USF over FSU, and that would only be because it has been around longer, building a good residency reputation with each year.

I like the early start date at FSU, and the idea of starting Anatomy early and focusing only on anatomy is brilliant. However, I sometimes feel that this locks us into this school earlier; those of us on multiple holds are forced to make a premature decision.

Just wondering on your thoughts about this. It'd be great to hear from current FSU med students, and other pre-meds in the same situation with FSU. Thanks in advance!

I am also on hold at USF in addition to UF and NYU...all of which I would have heard from over the summer. However- you just have to go with what you have at the time because there are no guarantees.

There is one thing you guys can do though, you can call each of the schools at which you are waitlisted and politely explain the same thing, namely, that you have been accepted to such and such school which has an early start program and that regardless of your acceptance you would be willing to be part of their class if they gave you a response before the start date at FSU. I think that's what I would do if I were in your possitions. Anyways, hope it helps...

you should definately contact usf and tell them about your acceptance at an early start school. they've gotta understand that this is a real scenario for applicants. hopefully the committee jumps on it... hey you got nothin to lose🙂

Thanks for all your responses. I did speak with Mr. Larkin at USF. He says that they will most likely get to my position on the waitlist (mid june), BUT of course, there is no guarantees. He pretty much told me that I had to make a decision whether to deny a sure thing (FSU) for an unsure thing (USF). But regardless, I should not complain, I am thankful to get into an MD program.

What a process! Best of luck to you all.

Guess i'll be seeing you Turquoisey this Friday at FSU early orientation.

Awww...you guys are having orientation already? I almost want to go lol. Everyone was so nice there. You guys will have an awesome time 😉
