FSU

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I haven't heard from FSU either. Anyone else received a secondary?

FSU screens before they send out secondaries....maybe that's the cause of the delay. Just hang in there. Anybody knows how people they are admitting for 2004?

BTW, I AM a resident of the sunshine state.

Hey guys. I too will be applying to FSU but I heard something disturbing. Tell me if you've heard the same thing too. I heard that they aren't accredited yet.

True?😕

Its provisional....there are things they must fix, but in the mean time, graduates are granted the true MD. If they screw up and dont get more staff, ect. the accedation can be easily revoked.

But no one spends millions setting this up without KNOWING that it will all work out fine. I would worry about getting an MD coming here. But i may worry about getting into that intergrated plastics program from here. They want primary care docs here....if thats what you want, come and get it...its a great area...

fsu will send you an email when your file is complete, after you return your secondary, fees, transcripts, LOR, etc.

Hightrump-
what's "integrated plastics"?

In the past to be a Platsic Surgeon you completed a 5 year general surgury residency. After which you applied to Plastics fellowships...which are just extentions of residency. These fellowships here 3 years. SO 8 total. this type of path is still common but some places are integating the two parts at trimming the fat so to speak. Eliminating all of the time spent teaching gen surg procedures usless to a plasics guy. There pragrams last 5 years instead to the combinded 8 of the other path and as such they are highly desired. To be honest platics isnt competive in itself, gen surg is easy to get and not many people want to continue the extra 3 years once they have completed a residency. But the Intergrated programs are notoriously competive....on the level of dermatology and opthomology.

It would be diffucult to get into such programs from schools at the bottom of the pile.

yeah but I am sure you will get into integrated plastics if your usmle scores are high and if you have decent connections.

Big assumption.

Besides how do you get connections while they rotate you though rural hospitals in North FL? Not that i belive connections are all important. I think boards should be weight fer more havily that med school rep or anything else...but its just not like that in residency directors minds...from what i can understand form the outside at least.

Guys just wanted to tell you that they are accepting around 60 people there for the 2004 class. New medical school building should be done around 2005. The faculty said that new staff are being drawn in and they are taking great lengths to make sure they are quality. I believe that the third and fourth year "displacement" from Tallahassee is kind of unique and lets you experience varying demographics of Florida. Just my two cents🙂 🙂
