The setup is ready, roles need to be written and all the fun little bits like gifs and whatnot. I also want to pre-write the first two or three days write-ups so that the people modding with me have a baseline of how to run the game. Then I can slack off go on post-step vacation while they run the rest of it.

I was gonna run RvB after Baby Animals but since coop's schedule is gonna be wacko, I have no particular timeframe for running it anymore besides sometime soon - so will just run it when there's a gap (...once the design is done). So its placement on the list is flexible.
 
Madagascar can go before June if there is space, but I don’t want to cut in front of anyone. It’s pretty much ready to go, though. Depending on when Countdown and the champs practice game are going, maybe it can slide in after baby animals and WWizards?

Edited to add: it really can go whenever. It's planned as a small/medium basics game, so if we have a gap that it fits in, great. If it waits until June, that's fine by me too. 🙂

We're already in maximum overdrive! Though depending on cycle length chosen, it may not be able to finish by the 7th.

I don't want to run overlapping with another game. I did that before and didn't like how it worked out.

I could push Baby Animals a week or so to avoid that but with at least 2 other games trying to run after I'm not sure how feasible that is.

So maybe just don't pick the cycle length that makes it run past May 7th?

I mean, it's not up to me unless I specifically get chosen to go. I'm just jonesing on matching what'll be experienced on MU as close as possible so there's less of a culture shock.

And why does that have to be done with a cycle length that pushes other people who is trying to run a game?

A lot of people want to run games this month and I feel like we should be trying to accommodate each other so I'm really unclear on why anyone (regardless of whose decision it is) would purposely pick a cycle length that makes it more difficult for others who want to run games.

There are cycle lengths outside of 12/12s that some people find more convenient for digesting large amounts of posts. So if that's that's what they'd choose on MU, that's what'd be run here. The other games (including my own) are separate games and not applicable to the champs practice so I don't see how one cycle length will be relevant to another. I can see adjusting EOD times if they plan on multitabling, but otherwise it's a non-issue.

I don't see why the practice game has to be EXACTLY like the MU game at the expense of other games that people are trying to run.

The reason one cycle length is relevant to the other games is because you're saying the cycle length would run the game past May 7th. Which means I'd either need to push my game (which impacts other people trying to run games) or run as an overlap which has not worked out well for me in the past because most people aren't awesome at playing two games at once. I would not care about the cycle lengths if it didn't affect other games... but it does.
 
@Animal Midwife it looks like cycle length can't really be predicted anyways because it's variable based on who is in the game. The overview post says the MU folks will try to slot people into their preferred cycle length, but since that's not a fixed thing like the roles, I don't see why people can't be flexible on that part for the prep.

Because it's a practice game. It's supposed to be very similar so you get practice. I really don't think it's an issue when it runs.

The practice game is held in May every year and I'm not going to lock off the entire month tell everyone they can't run games until it's finished.

Well, they only go against your wishes when they've tried every other avenue (and even then it's usually super minor like EOD is a couple hours later). I, myself, have never not gotten the cycle and EOD I wanted regardless of event.

It can be very similar with being exactly the same. There is absolutely no reason some differences can't exist for the sake of accommodating other people.

The lack of flexibility and unwillingness to accommodate other people who are trying run games is frankly ridiculous. The practice game is not more important than any other game on sdn.

Yeah, you're not telling other people not to run games in May but you're essentially suggesting they should overlap, push, or gtfo in order to accommodate whatever the practice game wants to do.
 
Ok so basically in order to keep everyone happy -- including giving priority to mods who kindly run games on this site and keep our site going -- we should vote for people who are ok with a 12-12 (at least for the practice), and get the champs game off the ground in the next couple of days.

Don't put words in my mouth please. People are just excited about it being ran. We don't even have a date in place because we're still in the nomination stage. No one's games are being threatened here.

I didn't put words in your mouth. I didn't say that you said the game was more important. I said you were acting like it. Because you are.

Suppose I could have just waited to see what happened, but I'm a big believer in hammering out issues up front rather than waiting until the last minute just in case the issue disappears.

No, I literally have been saying this whole time that I'm fine with overlap so everyone can run what they've been wanting to run when they want to run it. That's the opposite of wanting all eyes on a single game regarding importance.

That's the timeframe if everything is being even more rushed than it's currently going. In all reality, your game will probably be over by the time the signups say they're ready.
