Hi, guys. I need some help to understand this gas phase problem. It's the one from GChem. I wish i don't have this type of question on Real test. Please help me with this question! Thanks! 🙂

A method of removing CO2(g) from a spacecraft is to allow the CO2 to react with LiOH. How many liters of CO2(g) at 25.4°C and 716 Torr can be removed per kilogram of LiOH consumed?
2 LiOH(s) + CO2(g) Li2CO3(s) + H2O(l)
 
Well Reaction is balanced so i would start with the 1000g of LiOH

1000g LiOH * 1 mol/24g = 41.7 moles

41.7 moles LiOH * 1 mole CO2 / 2 moles LiOH = 20.8 moles CO2

so now you have number of moles for CO2 so,

PV = nRT

V = nRT/P

V = (20.8 moles * 0.0821 * 298.4 )/(716/760)

So I get V = 541 L :-s like porter house said...m sure he did the same way :-? and that's the right answer :xf:

Thanks!!! Guys. porter house and kkmaths! I'm pretty sure 541L is the correct answer. It's hard question though.
