Waitlisted here too. This sucks. Does anyone know if your position on the alternate is fixed? Or can spring term grades or a LOI bump you up?

I thought it was fixed. We've already been ranked and that's how they determine the waitlist to begin with?

I have heard of unranked waitlists, but I am almost positive that MCG's is ranked. And given the length of time it took for them to get the WL letters out, I doubt they would spend the time necessary to recalculate the rankings after updated grades. Just my opinion.

Yeah the waitlist is made at the beginning and cannot be changed no matter what.

I am really surprised that it has taken Mercer so long to get their waitlist out. My understanding was that we were all ranked/rejected on the 2nd. Are they sending out the letters this friday, or should we expect to have letters in the mail box by friday?

I don't understand this then. If we are applying this next cycle and we are not applying EDP - should we just expect to get waitlisted unless we have a 45? This is craziness! How does MCG work?

Well, I made a 45 so that disproves that theory.... hahaha

😀

it only took mcg 3 wks to accept my friend in regular decision. but they did have a 4.0 GPA & a 36 MCAT. so I guess you are right. if I could do it all over again I would apply EDP.

i live in atl
got my waitlisted letter today.👎

i think we'll all agree that nothing is definate when it comes to med. school admissions but...i asked a lady in admissions when waitlist letters would be going out and she told me that they were being mailed today...whatever thats worth...does anyone know about how deep the waitlist is at mcg and mercer? i figure 200 or so at mcg and 100-150 at mercer (just enough to cover an entire class and then some) but thats just my own assumption.

Waitlisted...surprise, surprise. That has been my prediction even before my interview. Does anyone know anyone that has gotten in regular decision? I have heard of two from UGA getting in since the october-december interviewees' acceptances. Like I've said before, they accept these ridiculously qualified applicants with 38 MCATs and 4.0 GPAs, and all of us "average" applicants are waitlisted. Then those awesome applicants go elsewhere, and that's why half the regular decision matriculants accepted were originally on the waitlist.

Oh, my letter was postmarked April 7th, not 4th. I wonder if that means I'm lower on the waitlist...

Well I just checked my mail and yea...... a waitlist. My roommate got accepted in February (interviewed early November) through regular pool. Besides him, i dont know of anyone who got in through regular decision. By the way anyone know of someone who has been rejected outright?

Check the date on the letter not the postmark.

Yeah, I just came back to change that. I was thinking people were talking about the postmark; I didn't even look at the date on the letter, only for the key work "waitlist."

The Savannah post-office must be really slow

I'm in savannah & I haven't received my letter as well.

Maybe all the Savannah natives are getting certified letters....haha, VERY wishful thinking on my part

Alternate list for me as well, in Atlanta.

Well on the bright side it looks like there will be alot of movement as in past years MCG took about 60-70 off the waitlist. So get ready to camp out by the post.😛

am I correct in assuming MCG's WL is not tiered?

I'm at a loss for all the people who got waitlist letters. It's crappy that they don't give you any info regarding your place either. I mean some people would chose mcg over other schools, and if they have a high place on the waitlist may stick it out.

I can't say I'm particularly fond of their number of acceptances they take from edp either. They're the only school I know of that take so many. It means no matter when you apply regular decision you're applying like a late applicant for a relatively small of number of very competitive spots.

Anybody remember why they do that? I heard an explanation at the UGA/MCG information session, but it was during MCAT season and I really didnt care then. But it seems as though this policy of having >70 EDP applicants per year really influences the makeup of their class...

It makes little sense to me, but I'm not administrator 🙄

The thing is it's just such a gamble. I'm sure there were a lot of people who applied edp and didn't get an acceptance and were left scrambling to get a few last minute apps out. Then those who didn't are left at a sever disadvantage as well. The only fair thing would be to take equal ratios of applicants to matriculants from edp and regular decision. Right now about half the people who apply during edp get in, and probably significantly less for regular decision.

Waitlist here too. I am in Athens and my letter was dated the fourth of April. Kinda stinks but I am so glad I was not straight out rejected.

I definitely agree. If I had known my chances of getting into MCG would have been better if I applied EDP, then I would have. In looking at this waitlist process, over 50% of those on the WL (which is 100 or so based on the MCG article) will be accepted, but at a later date... kinda ridiculous...

With so many of us waitlisted, what do you all plan on doing now? Retake the MCAT? Find a job? What's Plan B?

Waitlisted, guess I'll have to settle for Emory. In retrospect, during my interview I wasn't sure where I wanted to go and so I said I didn't have a first choice, next time I should just lie and say " YES YES OH GOD YES"

Fortunately I have an acceptance at Mercer, which I was leaning towards anyway, although the tution difference was tempting, lol. But I had already had a plan to reapply if I did not get accepted and I can tell you it did not involve the MCAT, lol. I was going to try to get some research because I really did not get any, but I am thrilled with Mercer. Hopefully everyone will get off the waitlist and get into MCG or Mercer.

Recently got a manager position in a retail store, so will prolly continue that and reapply next cycle. I will also finish getting my EMT-B cert and volunteer to fill up time and keep in the med community.

so, i'm about 99% sure that mcg waitlisted everyone that interviewed after christmas. I just found out that my class valdictorian got waitlisted as well. A 3.99 GPA 34 mcat guy. He interviewed a week before me.

I believe it. I interviewed Dec. 19 and everyone I know who interviewed before that got accepted and those who interviewed afterwards were waitlisted.

It's weird but I know someone with a 27/3.3 who got in and they interviewed mid-january.

I'm another Savannah applicant with no word from MCG. Maybe the mail will get to Savannah tomorrow. I was beginning to think I was the only one not receiving a letter.

I may give up any spot I obtain (waitlist/acceptance) at MCG anyway. Of course, it may be a straight rejection. In that case, I won't have to make any decisions. But, Mercer had a much better feel in interviewing, correspondence, student interaction, etc. I think I will be very happy at Mercer. My only concern is not really knowing what to expect from PBL.

Oh well, at least I don't have to repeat the MCAT.

Nothing in Savannah for me.

I'm sure I got waitlisted or rejected.

There are too many people in here talking about getting waitlisted for me to think I'm about to find an acceptance in the mail.

I am just so sick and tired of sitting around not knowing where I'm going to be attending.

So sick of this process.

You combine gas at $3.39, the reindeer games at MCG, and a crappy job, and you've got a miserable existence.

Yeah I see it the same way. I did decide to keep my waitlist spot though just in case something happens finacially and I won't be able to pay for Mercer, I don't forsee it, but better safe than sorry. Although I think if I was eventually taken off the waitlist I would still choose Mercer, especially since by the time there is movement I will most likely have found an apartment and all that stuff. I really liked Mercer, to me the only difference between the two schools was the price, but it seems like a great school. Hopefully though everyone is at the top of the waitlist. Hey maybe we all make up the top third, lol.

I'm sure you Savannah people will hear tomorrow. They reached Augusta yesterday and my house today, so the rest of GA should know by tomorrow. Or in a few hours, as it is already Thursday. Sorry, this whole week's been a blur to me.

To answer someone's questions from a way's back: Mercer generally takes puts about 70 on the wait-list. They don't fill their class either (in other words they don't accept 150 for 90 slots with the knowledge that 60 will not attend). Some schools do that. So, there are 90 people in the state right now who hold acceptances to Mercer. Unfortunately, I have NO clue how much the list will move. In years past, it has moved at LEAST 30 slots. But I think last year it may have moved only 10 or 20. Not sure what the difference is.

As far as attending Mercer: you'll LOVE PBL. I don't know why some people bad-mouth it. Oh, yeah I do. You have to buy lots of books and pretty much do every bit if the reading by yourself. What you lack in structured learning, however, you make up in VERY little formal class time which is quite nice. It's a great program and I can't imagine learning any other way. I may be a tad bias!

Good luck to everyone waiting.

I hear ya man. I'm just ready to be through and start school already. You hear all the people talking about how you have enjoy your time off before you start and what not, but I don't think they have to go to a crapy job every day.

Waitlisted as well, got the letter yesterday.

Guess now it's time to play the waiting game....

AGAIN😡

Now that I've vented my frustrations, let me ask those who are potentially re-applying next cycle... what happens if nothing about your application has changed? I find myself in a situation where this application basically had everything included that I hoped would help get me in, and aside from being more burnt out at my current job, nothing has changed. If I reapply I'll have the same LoRs (from undergrad and my job), same grades, same reasons for wanting to go to med school, and I'm pretty sure schools don't want to reread all that stuff if they said "No" once before. Anyone have any thoughts?

Many schools will do one on one reviews of your file and give you specific things you need to fix. I'm not sure if mcg or mercer does this, but you could contact ms. putnam or devaughn to see if something like this is available.

Waitlist at MCG as well. Anyone get a waitlist letter from Mercer or any correspondence at all.

Both will allow a denied/waitlisted applicant to do a phone review with the dean of admissions.

Wow, what's going on with the Savannah mail; it's been a week.
