Go Dawgs! Goin' Dancing!!!
Heck yeh! I can't believe GA pulled through and won some games! They looked really strong this weekend. What was the deal with the crowd? Tech stadium was <30% full.

On the other hand, Mercer isn't meeting until the 22nd? and by the 28th? will have their acceptances and waitlists completed.
Good luck! I know I'm not sleeping very well these days.

Ok I had an interview with Mercer pretty recently and here are the dates that were given to us
Next adcom meeting: March 19th
Final Interview Date: March 26th
and from this sheet of paper in front of me:
"All acceptance letters will be out by March 30th of the matriculation year"
Just giving the Mercer hopefuls a heads up, good luck to us all
And I don't think many people are sleeping much these days.😀![]()
Good prep for med school! Lot of late nights (and not the good kind).
That is 8 hours of study a day. That would be virtually impossible at MCG, with our time occupied from 9-5, right?
Well...it depends on who you talk to. I don't think lecture is required at MCG and they have a pretty good note-taking service from what I hear. I'm too anal not to go to lecture, however, so I would probably be up a lot later if I was at MCG.
Lecture is from 8-12 at MCG. We have things (standardized patients, small group discussions, preceptor in hospital, and electives in the spring) in the afternoon 2-3 days every other week.
can anyone please help? what other DO schools are GA Residents applying to? I know the one in Atlanta. What else? Is there other DO schools that don't mind having or maybe even favor GA residents??? Please help. Thank you
WVCOM

Yes, they do have a rural/underserved mission similar to Mercer's, and they've recruited at places like NGCSU for students. However, it is VERY expensive, even by private osteopathic school standards ($72k - $78k/year for nonresidents). Keep that in mind if you are looking around at other DO schools.
I've known some that applied to WVCOM and had success getting in. Unless they've made it more restrictive, their mission used to be very similar to Mercer's and thus they admitted many of the same type students. Not sure if they're still open. There are other DO schools not associated with a public college that are also friendly to out of state apps. NOVA, LECOM, etc.
Pick a couple, go to their web-sites and see...that's probably the best way to get the latest. Happy hunting!
Thank you bioman! What other DO schools do you recommend? Sorry, I am not sure. My darn premed advisor is a bum and is hardly no help to me. You and people like you here at SDN are my only guiding light! Thank you!!! 🙂
Heya!
Just to let you know some of the DO schools require a redicuously high deposit to hold your spot. So, I wouldn't apply in August to these schools unless you are certian that you want to go there. Last year, I interviewed at a DO school in September and got an acceptance the following week. In the letter, was a "must have your deposit by December 15th and another by March 15th" to hold your spot, letter. By December they wanted a NON REFUNDABLE $2,000 deposit and another $1,000 by March 15th.
I did not apply early decision and couldn't believe these figures and the fact that they were non-refundable. While the school was very nice, I was not willing to make this type of a deposit for a school that I wasn't sure I wanted to attend (especially before MCG and Mercer had gotten back to me).
I withdrew my acceptance and was subsequently waitlisted at MCG and Mercer last year. As you can tell, I'm back in it again. Looking back though, my fiance and I made the right decision as she wants to attend P.T. school and there wasn't one near the DO school.
This was WVCOM. Very nice campus, anatomy lab, etc.. But, the AVERAGE debt was $300,000 after 4 years.
Good luck and I hope you find the best school for you!
Does anyone know how DO tuition compares to schools like Emory and Mercer?
$300,000?!?!?!...I'll never complain about Mercer's tuition again! Holy crap! I'd rather take my chances at a Caribbean school than be $300K in the hole starting out....but, I guess if you're going to receive the HPSP it's probably a good option.
So another meeting today? It will be nice to hear something today. Good luck everyone!
Okay, here is a question not many people would be able to answer:
Doing HPSP, you are considered a member of the military (I think...). That said, for purposes of residence and taxes, military members are considered citizens of any state they choose. So could you get in state tuition for WVCOM and avoid the scholarship cap problems? Probably not, but I thought I would put that out there.
That brings up another point for armymt...Isn't there a cap on how much the armed forces will cover for med school expenses? I think the Navy will pay up to $160k for a four year commitment. If that's the case, then HPSP will cover about half the cost of WVSOM. Unless you moved to West Virginia, I wouldn't even consider this school unless I was completely sure that HPSP covered the entire cost.
So another meeting today? It will be nice to hear something today. Good luck everyone!
Upon acceptance for HPSP, you'll get a commission as an Officer in the Reserve, not active duty. If you were active duty, then out-of-state tuition is usually waivered. Correct me if I am wrong, but that does not apply to Soldiers in the reserves.
Mercer meeting was cancelled due to Match (see above post) next on the upcoming wednesday and the following
So does that mean that if we don't hear back from Mercer by 26th of March, we will either be rejected or waitlisted?
I bet we get acceptances from MCG before the end of the week.... Anyone taking that bet?
I'd be willing to bet that all of the acceptances at MCG will be mailed in early April. But I hope it's next week.
We are talking MCG here, huge number of files to be reviewed, and I would place my over/under for mass mailings at about April 11, with the waitlist going out a week after.
But then again I have no I-Dea what I'm talking about

I'd say that's not too bad for the small school no one heard of who only turns out "lowly" primary care doctors.
So if you're holding an acceptance letter to this school and are thinking about going somewhere else, or if you are sure you're coming here but worry about the school's reputation...don't. The evidence speaks for itself. As I've stated in other posts, you can be successful wherever you're willing to work hard, and I can tell you that those matching in the residencies listed above worked hard and will be excellent doctors.
Thanks GAdoc, that is really great. Do you know where the peds matched? That is the area I am planning on going into so it would be great to have that information.
Here is the list I hope.
Maybe someone you know.
I will have to change my posting name after May 9th graduation day.
Just have to brag about my school...I'll give you the highlights from today's match:
