GA school applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I thought everyone ultimately gets a letter in the mail regardless of whether you were emailed or called....

I would think so, considering you have to put your acceptance in writing...

I never know quite to expect with your avatars bodonid

My turn to bump!!!

(I hadn't in awhile...)

What are you bumping

 ha; the thread was on page 5, so I bumped it to the front page in case anyone else had been accepted off the waitlist. what are you up to?

Just trying to cram for my last 2 finals, not that I care too much about them. Then start packing up my stuff to head off to Maine for the summer.

What are you doing in Maine? Family there or something?

I just watched the premiere of House... I watched the 1st season way-back-when and I haven't had a TV since, but I'm living at home from now until august. And I didn't think the episode was very good, but nothing else on a Monday night.

Nah, I do a bunch of research at a lab up there. And what is this you didn't like House?! I am appalled, haha.

You seem pretty normal, so that's 1/180 of our class I don't have to worry about; but if you've seen our facebook group- are you worried? I mean, if that male stripper guy is the top of our class, I think my head would explode.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! My girlfriend and I were thinking the exact same thing; yeh the FB group worries me a little...good thing that's not even half of the class.

House was ok. They have sort of been getting away from the medicine and are more into story lines than it seems it use to be. i.e. All the stuff with Wilson and his female house.

lol, the guy you're referring to is a friend of mine- his picture is actually from a body building competition he was in, so no worries about male strippers in your class!

one person on SDN gets off waitlist means how many from outside SDN world?
any guess

I would think 10-20 percent of applicants use SDN, with 5-15 percent actually posting. My guess is ~10 spots taken off the waitlist so far.

Possibly more. At least 190 people were accepted without waitlisting, and I only know of ~3 on SDN (1.6%). MCG students just don't post here, that's all it is. 🙁

does anyone know how the financial aid for mcg work for the waitlisted ppl? Lets say you get off the waitlist in mid/late may. Are you suppose to pull 20k out of your ass?

My friend who got off the waitlist told me that he paid out of pocket with no financial aid at all. Is that the norm or exception?

Anyone can fill out the FAFSA, which is free student aid. On the form it allows you to input up to 5 or 10 schools at which you think you might be accepted to.

Even though I have only been waitlisted, I was told to fill out a FASFA by the (June?) deadline or I couldn't be considered for financial aid. It's my understanding that you should always fill out the fasfa, no matter what you think might happen.
I don't think there is ever a scenario where a person who has need, and fills out the forms, can't get financial aid. But I could be wrong about this...I hope not!

dang, u guys are fast. I guess i'm not the only one refreshing this forum religiously.

Definitely do your FAFSA and submit it to any school you could potentially get into this year. Its not difficult and if you end up not getting in/not going somewhere it doesn't hurt anybody.

I will be withdrawing my acceptance to Mercer in the next couple of days so I hope that opens up a spot for some of you guys who are waitlisted at Mercer and really want to go there.

I hope your withdrawl is for a good reason, may I ask if (and what) other school you were accepted too?

I received an acceptance offer from MCG today too. I was waitlisted as of 4 April. I received my offer by mail and was asked to inform the committee of my decision within one week of receipt. The letter was dated 2 May. So hopefully more will receive good news within the next week! (I live in Augusta.)

CONGRATS

Do you mind posting ur stats so that we can know what to expect?

my friend got off the waitlist last thursday. In case you guys are wondering, his stats are 34 mcat and 3.97 gpa. He interviewed late jan.

This is my first time posting (been reading for a couple of months), I just wanted to add to the waitlist movement. I got in MCG Thursday as well with a 3.7 and 30 MCAT. I interviewed in the first week of February. Good luck to everyone else still waiting!

Thanks for posting, and congrats to everyone getting in! Did anyone hold multiple acceptances?

Does anyone know when orientation for MCG is this year?

BOLD applies to me

waiting anxiously

I'm begining to lose faith on the power of stats.

Remember that the numbers only play a PART of the total application file; however, I have faith that you and MDpride will get an acceptance by the end of this cycle.

well at least now we know there is a pretty steady WL movement. More than we can say for regular decision!

Awesome screen name. On a UT sports website, I am "Her co-star in the beaver picture"

those from UGA: did you use Langford? My friend is considering not using the premed "packet" that Langford's office uses and I am just trying to see if anyone doesn't?

Why wouldn't your friend use the committee letter?

I went to UGA as an ug, and didn't apply to med school until in grad school. Where I am now there isn't a pre-med committee so it's a non-issue but I've heard that schools strongly recommend a committee letter from schools where they are available. Not using Langfords letter probably wouldn't benefit an MCG applicant seeing that Langford is MCG alumnus (and supposedly has strong ties there), but it might play less of a factor other places. Schools familiar with UGA's pre-med system would probably wonder why your friend went against the grain, and I would imagine this would raise somewhat of a red flag on your friend's application.

That aside, I sincerely doubt it would make or break an otherwise strong applicant.

I talked with MCG this past week and was told that they will send a letter if you get accepted before May 15th. After that, you will get a phone call.

Also, I was told that they typically pull 40-70 students from the waitlist and that there are two big moves (May 15th-ish and Early June). May 15th isn't really a deadline, it's the date at which you can't get your deposit back. After June 1st, medical schools are allowed to put pressure on accepted applicants that are holding multiple acceptances (ie they can withdraw their acceptance if you don't drop your other schools in 48 hours).

Hope that helps.

my sentiments exactly.

My letter came from 2 professors in graduate school and my thesis adviser. I also included a letter from a physician that I have spent time with. I didn't to the letter from Dr. Langford since I have been away from UGA for 3 years and my letter writers know my potential more than any undergraduate professor that would have been included in my UGA letter.

i am happy that I see some WL movements at MCG. That means, I hope, Mercer WL movement will soon start! Anybody heard yet?

I got waitlisted at Mercer... I haven't heard anything yet, but I'm waiting axiously!!
