Anyone have experience using the Note 10.1 in class? I'm trying to come up with a paperless solution going into M2, and this device seems pretty awesome. It's a full featured tablet with a Wacom stylus and digitizer, making it ideal for writing and taking notes. I also like drawing out diagrams, so I'm hoping I can replace my paper notebooks as well with this. Ideally I can write/highlight on the pdfs/ppts provided for us and organize them in a way to make it easy to review for exams.

One thing I'm wondering though is how easy it is to write small and make precise lines. I've gotten used to writing small with a micro tip pen, so I wouldn't be too keen on using a device where I could only fit 5-6 words on a line. I tried using the iPad in the past, and it's way too clumsy for me to consider it seriously for writing/drawing, not to mention the annoying workarounds that I don't want to deal with.

Alternatively, has anyone tried out the newer Note 8? I'm thinking the 10.1 is a must for classes, but the Note 8 sounds attractive for years 3 and 4.

Your handwriting will look almost the same on the note as it would if you were using pen and paper. I don't use one myself but several of my classmates do and they only have good things to say about it.

I used a friend's 10.1 and used one at the Verizon store--I don't think it's really as fluid as hand writing, to be honest; maybe I'm too picky.

Are you planning on going to class? If so, I think the Note 10.1 is the best choice since you can pick one up for less than $300. You could also get a Windows 8 tablet.

I didn't go to class, so I used a drawing tablet (bought on sale for $40) and wrote on the PPTs: http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=11303&cs_id=1084101&p_id=6251&seq=1&format=2

Don't get a tablet without a digitizer, they're useless for note taking.

I had a Note 10.1 for about 5-6 months. It's a powerful tablet, but the screen shape is a little more awkward than the square shape of the iPads. It's much more of a rectangle, making it strictly a landscape kind of tablet. Also, I'm still frustrated that Samsung keeps shipping tablets with such low screen resolutions. 1200x800 is pretty low for a 10 inch tablet. Even the new Galaxy Tab 3 (available for preorder now) has the same 1200x800 resolution. I'd say to get a Surface or an iPad. Both of these are fairly bulky though. I just switched to the iPad mini over the Note 10.1 and couldn't be happier. The iPad mini has a low resolution as well, but because it's packed into the smaller 8 inch screen, it still looks great.

I just got a note 8.0 for the hospital. it would have been nice for classes earlier, though I think my already bad handwriting is even worse with it. Before you go big, consider that if you intend on carrying a tablet in your white coat, a full size tablet can be inconvenient, especially if you don't have a massive pocket for it. Also, while many a larger screen may make presentations a bit better, I really don't think you get much practical benefit in real terms moving up from a 7-8" screen to even a 12". 95% of the time, my galaxy s3 did just fine with streaming video lectures with ppt slides.
