Hey everyone!

I am a senior and my GPA is a 3.53 and I have had a lot of family issues that have just gotten in the way of me being able to take my MCAT earlier and apply to medical schools this past June. I am desparately in search of a gap year option. I have been looking into consulting for a healthcare company, but i'm not entirely sure if that would be the best option. I would greatly appreciate any tips on potential opportunities I could apply to for me to pursue after graduation in May. I will be applying to medical schools in June 2019. I willl take my MCAT in January and I just want to get as many options presented for me as possible. Thank you in advance.

This depends on how good the rest of your app is and what your qualifications are for consulting. If your app needs anything, you need to fix it up rather than go work. What kind of company? What degree(s) will you have at the time? Do you have experience in the field? What about connections? More importantly, do you have a job lined up? Interviews? Does this company know they will only have you for 1 year from your start date and are they still willing to hire you if that is the case? Because you are going to have to take time off for interviews.

I am sorry to hear about your family issues but don't let something like this get in the way again if you can help it.

If your application-related activities are strong, you can get any job you like (bonus points if it involves working with the public), so long as you continue with some sort of volunteer clinical involvement and community service.

Agree with the above. Use the gap year to enhance your app. MCAT prep is your primary focus, then research and ECs. Your grade average is a little low, how is your sGPA? Might consider taking some classes if that needs to be bolstered. Good luck and best wishes. Keep the job if it allows you to do all of the above. Best wishes and good luck!
