Not sure if others are having to deal with this or not.

Atlanta has been without gasoline for 2 weeks now and this is projected not to improve for another week and not to be back to normal for 2-3 weeks from now. I have been waiting for hours every couple of days to get 10-20$ worth of gas b/c the places that do have it are rationing it.

Wonder if no gas is a good enough excuse to miss work.

I heard about it. Why is the shortage only in Atlanta but not anywhere else? Are people not showing for work because of it? I lived in Atlanta for a while. I bet it's got to be painful. There is no good way of getting around without a car.

I havent heard any real good explanations but the news basically said that there were refinery issues after Ike. Not really understanding that since other areas arent hit like this.

Anyway yeah its been hard scraping by. Basically I dont drive anywhere except to go to work. Its especially hard because Emory residents are spread out all over the city in multiple hospitals.

I just drove to Atlanta last week. I don't know where in town you live but it may be worth driving south to columbus/lagrange/phenix city. I filled up in Phenix city with no problem. It was about an hour or a little more from the airport. Of course if you don't have the gas to get there this post doesn't really help. I hope it gets better for you.

Atlanta's out of gas. Thats a shocker.

Maybe its because all the brothas gotta go pimpin' in the middle of the night.

Lets not forget all the crackas doing business with their cars.

Maybe if the ghetto administration of Atlanta would tax gas more then maybe less people would use gas. 😀

PS....The above statements were jokes. Nothing racist by intent.

As I understand it there are a couple of reasons. One is that all or almost all of the gas in Atlanta comes from the Gulf. Go a little farther north and there are other supplies. Basically all of the gas come from two pipelines. Ike and Gustav shut down the refineries serving these pipelines for about two weeks. Apparently gas in a pipeline only moves at 3-5 miles per hour so it takes a while for the gas to get here once things started flowing again. Making this worse, it happened at a time when they were switching over to low sulfur gas because of winter smog so supplies were naturally low.

Now other states (known as those that now have gasoline) saw what was going on and asked for an EPA waiver and have sufficient gas supplies. However, GA was completely asleep and waited a week to ask so got farther into a hole.

So its a combination of natural disaster, bad timing and inept government. Kind of the perfect storm ATL style. They are now trucking in gas and have relaxed the rules allowing the truckers to drive more hours. For what its worth, it seems to be getting better. The QT on LaVista and North Druid Hills has had gas for three days straight now (after being out for a week). The panic where people are constantly hunting for gas doesn't help.

I'm just going to sit here in Alberta confortably. We have barely heard anything about shortages down south 😉

Might be time to head out of town and store up for emergencies.

When I first read this thread title, I thought we were going to hear about needing to conserve Sevo because of a manufacturer's shortage!
