Gauge my Chances or Lack Thereof

I know I've posted this before, like months or so ago, but here's the newer version.

At this point, I'm worried my undergrad sci GPA is going to be below a 3.0 with some +/- factored in. I doubt it'll be less than a 2.8, very worst case scenario. And I'm wondering if I should retake my DATs.

Stats
Undergrad: cumu 3.1, sci 3.0.
Hygiene: 3.3, but factored into undergrad
Acc. masters (expected end of May) : 3.6 with +/-; 3.78 without +/-
DAT: 19/19/22 taken in July 2010

Personal Statement stuff
Didn't know what I wanted to do. Got more determined after college. Shadowed and researched into various careers. Liked dentistry a lot after. Worked as assistant/lab tech for almost a year, went back to school for hygiene. Love hygiene enough, but want more ability to diagnose, tx and take it further. Took DATs. Enrolled in 1 year masters in bio after hygiene. Worked 10-30 hrs a week as a hygienist while obtaining masters. Did a lot of community work, dental health ed, translator.

LOR
Committee letter: Biochem prof, anatomy prof (TAing for this guy), microbio prof. All pretty solid letters
Additional letter: Employer (prosthodontist) and an oral surgeon. Both pretty good letters.

EC
-Human Gross Anatomy TA
-2 years neuro research for Parkinson's using m. melanogaster
-80+hrs shadowing oral surgeon
-Worked at another oral surg office as assitant.
-working 10-30 hrs a week as a hygienist
-Submitting a manuscript this summer for publication for a review article. A mid-lower tiered dental journal. Not c0cky enough for JADA.
-Volunteer dental health educator at a local non-profit free clinic for a diverse population.

Others
-Fluent in 3 languages; working on picking up Spanish again. Was semi-fluent in Spanish when I was younger.
-Played piano for 15+ years

Pretty blunt aren't we? I guess we cannot all be dentalprodigys...

Kitty^2, I would say that you look ok. I know many people with a sciGPA like yours that are doing just fine in DS.
Looks like good LOR's, and personal statement contents seem good. DAT isn't bad either. EC's look alright as well.

I would apply and when invited for interview, knock that out of the ballpark. Best advice for interviews would be to not talk about what the adcoms already know about you. Think about that statement and you will understand what I mean.

The very solid master's GPA + great ECs are a nice plus. The DAT is not bad, so it won't hurt. However, it won't pull you up either. All said and done, you have a pretty good shot. 🙂

Anyways, you have great stats for Masters, but I think your DAT scores can be higher. Try aiming for a 21/22 AA and I think you'll be okay. You're more than capable of accomplishing this, given your GPA from the Masters. Also apply broadly. Best of luck!

Thank you for the kind words. Biggest debate I'm sort of having with myself right now is whether I should retake my DATs... ahhh decisions.

You know, I see dentalprodigy's posts here and there always followed by that Samsung Tapatalk **** and it drives me up a wall. Please just get an iPhone already or something. And I wonder what he'd suggest that I do since I have slim to none chance. A dirty bathroom attendant? A bikini waxer? Oh the possibilities are endless!

What are all of your scores? If they're all in the 18 to 20 range a retake probably isn't necessary. So long as you apply broadly. the rest off your package it's very nice, and it looks like you've done about all you can with that gpa.

haha I'm kidding. I think your application very well rounded. If you can't get into dental schools with all your academic and esp. non-academic work.. then I would have to start looking into the options you described above 😎

Oh! I think dentalprodigy was just being sarcastic with that comment b/c you have a really good chance of matriculating.

.....back to studying for a class taught by a pure researcher who has never taught before =_=
