Dear Rads people,

I'm using GE Centricity 2.0/ PACS to take aneurysmal measurements for a neurosurgery study. The distance tool gives me measurements in "units", does anybody know how to convert these measurements to mm? I went through the user manual and I don't think there is a feature in PACS itself. Thanks in advance.

Are you sure its the ruler tool and not hounsfield units tool? The PACS software I've used (not centricity) always displays in mm.

Yes very sure, it is not the Hounsfield tool. Here is a screenshot.

Are you looking at these aneurysms by fluoroscopy? If so, then you have to have some sort of standard that is external to PACS. Usually, for me at least, this means using the fluoroscope to measure something before saving an image. Otherwise, you have to have an object of a known distance in the field, like a radio-opaque ruler, that will allow you to convert from units to millimeters. Even then, there will be some error due to magnification.

BTW, I can't see your screen save on my phone. Hence the question about fluoroscopy.

No they are not through fluoroscopy. In some of the older images they used standard sized "washers" in the field but these ones don't have that.

I used to have Centricity. If it is strictly done from PACS, you will need to calibrate your measurement. Usually we left some kind of marker on the patient while in flouro so we know the actual distance for measurement later. Now, if it what you are trying to do is from the Cine clip for angio, the software is able to do that if there is a catheter on the screen and it will automatically (sort of) calibrate for you.

Good luck.
