Which c-arm is better if cost is no matter? HOPD is outfitting a new clinic and asking which of the two I want. I believe I can only choose between the two.

I can’t speak for the Phillips, but my HOPD has the GE Elite and I am a big fan

Just tried the Elite.

Great pictures. Nice screen. Laser is nice.

2 concerns with it:

1. the intensifier portion is huge and can get in the way.

2. I found my fluoro time was much higher with the Elite compared to the 9900 or 9900.

SI injections of 4-5 seconds with 9900 were 10-12 with elite. TFESI of 9 seconds was 14 with Elite...

I dunno @Ducttape. It may be a set up issue. I was flying with the minuteman and si bone case I did @mdo1738 ‘s hopd. Less than a minute per case probably.

Really liked how quick they could flip the images to make the orientation anatomical for the si fusion.

We had the rep in the room adjusting settings. Never with all the changes did the times get as low as with the 9900.

This was noted also by all of the other docs who tried the machine.

Not a huge diff but worth noting. 2-4 sec each injection can add up.

The time isn’t as important as the rad exposure per case. Don’t assume they are equal.

4 seconds x 40 injections = 160 second.
So a grand total of 2.5 minutes?
Maybe theyre just getting acquainted with the new machine.
The Elite does have lower rad dosing as Joe mentioned.
2.5 minutes doesnt really add up much.

Ok so is the OEC Elite the best one out there that money can buy at this time?
Yes. theres one called the OEC Elite One i think that has the screens attached to the C-Arm for a more ergonomic profile also.

I agree. I had an OEC One in pulsed mode and the 5 minute timer went off. It should have been around 1.5 minutes of actual time.

So they have changed the time measure to reflect the actual real time on the button which doesn’t change even in pulsed mode vs what they did in the past where time reflected dose.

That is more confusing typed out than it should be.

True but it is an indirect marker that is easy to calculate vs the rad exposure that you would only get from checking the dosimeter months later.

Have you compared your readings using that machine vs others?

Not a lot of study done on this topic. This article suggests that GE does have more rad exposure but better image quality than the Phillips and comparable to Ziehm, which had the highest dosage.

the picture quality is superior, which at present outweighs my concerns on potential increased dosage. When using the Elite, I'll just need to be more mindful...
