Considering how gender identity disorder / gender dysphoria is currently being classified as a mental illness under DSM-5 for clinically significant distress associated with the condition, what have you seen in your institution in treating such individuals? Dr. Paul McHugh, University Distinguished Service Professor of Psychiatry and a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the Johns Hopkins University, for instance, has stated that such individuals need psychiatric/psychosocial, not surgical help. In your own professional experience, have you come across successful cases in helping patients recognize their birth gender, removing their disordered identity thoughts, and fixing such deviancy?
