I am selecting classes for the fall semester and have a choice between gen biochem and biochem I. The difference between the two is that general requires only the first semester of organic chemistry while biochem I requires both (which I will have). I know biochem is supposed to be a tough course from what I have heard on campus, but which one should I take? I have done well in organic chemistry, but don't know what to expect in biochem. Should I jump right into it?
I will be taking the course with the second semester of general biology (organismal) if it makes any difference.

You should do it; biochem is not that tough to understand. It requires more memorization than ochem. As long as you put in the time and effort to know it, you should be fine. I think you can definitely handle biochem along with gen. bio.

Biochemistry is not hard. In fact, I think it is easier than organic chemistry. Most of the material in biochemistry will be new to you, so no one has an advantage. If you really want a head start, memorize all the amino acids and their structure now. Understand Michaelis-Menten equation and you are already almost there. 😛
There are lots of calculations involved though.

I would definitely do biochemistry I. It honestly is not that bad and you will definitely have a heads up when you enter pharmacy school and start your p1 courses.

It requires heavy memorization but if you can understand massive pathways and how they are all interconnected you will be set. 🙂

Thanks everyone for sharing your experience in the class.
