i currently work as a perfusionist in cardiac surgery and am very aware of the healthcare crisis affecting most physicians and podiatrists (increase malpractice, and decrease reimbursement). I was wondering how has this affected the dental industry, if at all. I am not aware of the average dentist/orthodontist salaries, malpractice coverage, or billing procedures. I am just asking for my own curiosity. thank you for you responses.

Dentistry has largely resisted penetration by managed care, but it's more because we saw what happened to medicine than anything. Dentists' salaries have risen substantially in the last decade or so, at the same time that most physicians' have been stagnating or even decreasing.

From what I heard and read about Dentist Salaries, specialists average out $250K+, and the average GP earns $170K+. Malpractice is minimal compared to physicians - Do a search on this topic, it has been discussed in the past many times.

My malpractice insurance is up over last year and is now $574.00/year. It's really hard to kill somebody as a dentist.
