Getting 90+ in 1st Attempt?

HI everyone........just wanted to know is there anyone out there who got a 90+ in their first attempt at NDBE I?? And if yes how long did you study for it?? Just curious.............

hi..i got 91 first attempt..studied off and on for about 6 months(3-4 hrs a day with weekends off), the last 1.5 months, i worked very hard abt 9-10 hrs a day also studying on weekends with only saturday evenings off.
I made a mistake of taking lots of breaks in the beginning, like i would not study for 1-2 weeks in between and then start again, there were too many distractions and no continuity...
A lot of ppl study jus for a couple of months and get 90+..I personally feel it all depends on ur retaining power and of course how long ago u graduated from college(BDS)..its almost 9 yrs since i completed my 1st yr BDS and i was totally out of the school mode, so most of the subjects felt relatively new to me and i had to study from scratch.
I think the last few weeks before the exam is very important and please do revise atleast twice before the exam.

I got 96 in my first attempt & i studied totally for 6 months....5-6hrs avg with weekends off for 5 months & the last month i spent nearly 10-12hrs a day without any weekend breaks. But it depends, its 5 years since i have finished college so it took a while for me to get into the groove.
Like rtvj said....it depends on how much you can retain ....but no matter what you should keep sometime in the end for revisions.

Thanks for all the feedback....i'm really hoping that i do well in my first attempt because i don't have the energy to go thru this again....it's really tiring me out....

Sushila....1 month??? That's awesome!!!! 👍 You must be a genious....

I do agree that it has a lot to do with your retaining ability but it has alot to do with luck too..

I got only an 80 in my first attempt (which was in the last week of Aug ). I had only time to complete the Decks and a couple of papers. Am planning to take the exam again in the last week of Nov. Please advice me as to what kind of preparation I should do. Is 'Kaplan notes + Decks + Question papers' the right way to get a 90+ ? Should I study any USMLE books? Please advice

Thanks for the complements Mekha. my aim was reading atleast 60 pages of kaplan in a day , i was not doing everything together & after reading kaplan u need not to go thru all the explanations of decks & everything else also become easy , so u just need to go thru, as we find only basics in NBDE 1 , so i think u need only to go thru whole syllabus & not leaving any topic. I prepared in this way.& furthermore i think finishing a rct is not related with preperation.

I honestly think that getting 90 by studying for 1 month is not possible. One has to really work hard to get a good score of 90+. Which means reading Decks, solving papers, referring text books for tough issues. These take time. I believe, it took me at least 6 months to get there.

I also think we should not give people false sense of hope that you can achieve success with minimal efforts.....remember....NO GAIN WITHOUT PAIN!!!

But that is just my opinion......

hi i am also giving exam after 10 years of graguation please help me to prepare is computer based difficult than paper based .

it is impossible to get 90+ in just 1 month,if one graduated long back. but for me perhaps good hold on subject during bds,preparing for MDS in india & graduated in 2001-everything helped, so to be honest i just revised the stuff once in last month. but in that last month i was only & only studying ,not doing any work.after finishing exam i was like dead did lot of easy questions wrong & i was expecting my scores will be around 85 & planning to start preparing again but i was thrilled when i saw my scores & thought that perhaps preparing for MDS & good hold in bds helped a lot & preparing for 1 month was just a revision..u r true NO Gain without Pain but i took that pain during my bds, preperation for mds & last 1 month.so we can say not just 1 month preperation but lot of other things matter for scores

im very new to this thread ...i am planning to take my exams in dec....i have jus started preparing with kaplan review book n questions..i would really appreciateif anybody willin to sell the dental decks,papers n supplementry tests .im in need of it...please anyone do reply..im preparin for the first time...

Pls do Kaplan review notes or USMLE review notes , Dental decks and Q papers.I studied from chaurasia for anatomy and went thro wheelers for DA.

IF u have a lot of time ( say 6 months),The foll is my sincere advice.

1.Since ur graduation from BDS was a decade ago, i will advise u to go thro the notes once as if u r reading a story book so that u get familiar with it.
After finishing every subject, go thro the dental decks for that subject.

2.Once u finish that, start revising each subject again followed by dental decks and q papers.(Remember, u will feel as if u dont remember anything from ur first reading but its very normal so dont worry)

3.Repeat the above for the 3rd revision.

By now u will be confident in writing the exam.If u still have a lot of time, then revise again.

4.While studying all the 3 times, have a separate book where u can jot down the important points and certain q's from the papers which u feel u wont remember.

5.The week before the exam, go through the book only.It will be very very helpful.

I had done this and was happy that a lot of questions which came in the exam were from the points and questions i had written separately.

6.Do not get addicted to SDN in the beginning of ur preps but when u r into ur 2nd and 3rd revision, start checking out the threads on SDN every alternate day so that u can discuss the questions and answers.

7.A lot of ppl post their q's from their CBT exam on the SDN forum, so make sure u save them so that before u write the exam , u can go thro it.

8.If u dont understand something, u can always ask someone on SDN but if that does not work, jus type it on google search and u will get tons of info abt the same.I learnt a lot this way.

9.Abt CBT or PBT..I am not sure which is better,I feel seeing the scores everyone got in PBT, it must have been easier than the CBT i took..but the general feeling is it doesnt matter whether u take CBT or PBT as long as u r thorough with ur revision.

It will be tough studying in the beginning and discouraging when u feel u dont remember anything but i am 100% sure u will be confident at the end and do well in the exam.
