I recently got licensed in NJ. I am wondering about getting licensed in NY. I know that I will not be able to reciprocate without over 2000 hours but let's say I want to get licensed in NY with only around 1200 hours, would I simply need to take the law and compounding exams?

Yes I believe that is all you need to do for NY - the hard part is compounding is only offered twice per year in select locations.
