Hi Everyone!

I'm new to this site and hoping to meet some great people and eventually be able to post in a "Accepted" pages! But until then, it'd be great to get to know some of you!

I am anxiously waiting for the VMCAS to open in May! It will be my first time applying 🙂 I am getting my "final" school list together (yikes!) as well as writing my personal statement 🙂

*Hopeful large animal/food safety vet*

I am a senior at a college in VA and a history major who is getting a teaching degree (while doing all my pre-reqs! X_X And yes, you don't need to a be a biology major! Won't help or hurt you in any way- the number #1 question asked to me. lol 🙂 ).

Who else is applying this cycle? 🙂 And if you are a non bio major as well, show yourself! 🙂

Heather

P.S. I know that what's posted on the school sites are not set in stone, and I've been trying to figure this out for about the past year after hearing many different answers. An out of state student can get an interview, right? On some school sites it says they don't, but then there are plenty people who get them out of state. Does that just happen when they can't decide on you and want to meet you in person?

Yes, OOS students can get interviews. It depends on the school. Some vet schools do not conduct interviews for OOS students (Oklahoma comes to mind). There are also schools that don't do interviews at all.

Okay, great! That makes sense on why I heard OOS students getting told a little early about interviews because they have to make plans on actually getting to the state. Thanks! 🙂

I applied to two schools that don't do interviews (Wisconsin and Cornell) and two that do (Auburn and Purdue). I was invited to interviews for Purdue and Auburn and was expected to travel to both of them (I'm from KY).

Hi there! I am also anxiously waiting for VMCAS to open. And by anxious I mean nervous, excited, overwhelmed, etc 😛. I'll be a first time applicant as well.... although I fit more of the "non traditional" group as I am 28, have two Bachelor degrees but still have a few pre reqs to finish (currently taking Biochemistry while working full time).

Ultimate goal is wildlife vet through non profit or government agency (state or federal)

I'm sure more class of 2021 hopefuls will come out of hiding once VMCAS opens!

Well, barring a small miracle, I'll be a 2nd time applicant this cycle.

I only applied to my IS this past cycle (and will probably take that route again this year) and was waitlisted.
I'm hopeful that everything is easier the second time around. VMCAS opening still seems pretty far away right now but I'm sure it will be here before we know it... and then all of that wonderful time you have in which to complete the application just races by.

Where are you planning on applying?

I totally get that! I'm finishing up some pre-reqs also. Student teaching makes everything wonky 😛

My home school is VA-MD, and then I'm applying to other schools I have requirements for. Illinois, CO, and probably a few others. Oregon will be my stretch school, but anything can happen! I once had a bio teacher say "let the school tell you no, not yourself", so I'm seizing the day with ones that may be a little harder. Anything can happen though! You basically have the same chance getting into vet school as you do winning big in Vegas, so why not see what will happen? 😛 The right person might be reading your application that day! 😉

Right there with you. Now that we've been through it once we'll be VMCAS pros. 😉
