Started listening to a few lectures and the very first thing I heard was

"How many of you have taken Tylenol? If you have, you just took poison! It should be taken off of the market ASAP!"

WTF....

I think there's a TON of good info in these lectures but the dude does kind of come off as cocky lol

This makes me fearful for the younger generations of doctors. Are you just going to be studying machines without a life or outside interests?

This week I've worked 50 hours, gotten laid uncountable times, been drunk w/ friends 2 times, and worked out daily.

Mindless study machine eh

Dude,

You can claim how much drunking, getting laid, partying you do all you want. Def won't change how people view this (I just took a quick look through your post hx--clearly this is a repeating pattern for you, trying to "prestudy" for medical school" by learning Lippinocotts)

Honestly, if that's what wets your whistle go for it. But, don't try and sit there and tell me how well-rounded you are that its okay for you to "prestudy".

How about watching some tv? comedy central has some good shows? go online to hulu or adult swim? or how about just staying up with your roommates getting drunk, or having a philosophical discussion, or playing Mario Bros. on Super NES (yes, thats right, I'm old school), anything would be better than doing what you are doing at this point.

As for your argument about bettering yourself. You are not bettering youself, you are trying to make yourself just better than your perceived competition in medical school. You want to really better yourself? Your that much of an academic? Go online and watch some of MITs free lectures on math, computers, teaching, and learn something new you won't have the opportunity to learn later (o wait, I forgot your going to tell me how you had 8000 majors in math, biology, neuroscience, chemistry major that learned a wide array of material already).

Good luck on Step 1, better start memorizing First Aid.

I just played a lot of SNES today actually, donkey kong country 2. Learning medicine is just another hobby dude...one that happens to be my future career. When I study it's not because I want to beat all my class mates or feel superior...its because I enjoy it, just like I enjoy partying, video games, lifting, girls etc.

I have many med student friends and every single one of them that spent their summer before MS1 drunk/stoned doing nothing got off to a miserable start. They're all doing great now..but it took awhile. Transitioning from drinking 5x a week to med school doesn't seem so smart, but what do I know?

I'll just never get why there is this overwhelming attitude where most students feel like they shouldn't work harder than the minimum requirements they need to slide by...(not implying that's you btw)

I had NO idea who Goljan was when I was in undergrad... and I'm glad. Why bother learning pathology when I can spend senior year taking classes like "Ice Skating" to fill up my credits?

Besides, I feel like his lectures are so high-yield, I didn't have that kind of concentration or attention span back then....

No offense, OP, but you really shouldn't be listening to Goljan's lectures for fun... leave that for when you're in med school, when they really will be the only enjoyable learning you'll do...

Anyways this thread is off topic. I'm off to the bar now anyways...because I'm so horribly unbalanced 😉

I mainly just wanted to get a taste of them, I have no intention of really absorbing the info til MS1/2. Definitely not taking notes or hanging on his everyword.

i agree

God damn this kid is trying wayyyyyyyy too hard to convince us that he's like, totally rad, dude, and not like every other premed/med student.

But, I do agree that it's funny when med students tell everyone "nah bro, I only cared about chasing skirts and pounding 40's in college" when a year ago they were freaking out on the Pre-Allo board about about whether the A- in Super Advanced Geothermal Physics would keep them out of Harvard.
Edit: however, this really doesn't apply here. The "what are you thinking??" crowd is right on this one.

I think you're getting wayyyy ahead of yourself... And I wouldn't go around telling future classmates you listen to Goljan for fun.

I'm glad this guy figured out the secret to earning the respect of his peers in medicine: Drinking, sex, and donkey kong.

"And why should we accept you in our residency program son?"
B/c Diddy Kong and I dropped back a bottle of Jameson while tagging girls.
