I have a bunch of interviews coming up in November and December. While my cycle is obviously not going badly, I think I could be doing better during my interviews: more relaxed, more collected, more articulate, etc. Besides the obvious stuff (know your own application well, get enough sleep, etc) what are some pre-interview habits that have worked for you?

I like watching some of my favorite speeches. Gets me in the oratory zone 😏

We all have something about us that's twisted that we only show to our closest friends. Straighten that up for your interview because those are unconscious habits. It helps to be in constant contact with a pre med advisor because they'll point out some behavior that can come off as wrong but they know you and don't mean it that way.

I have written some essays that come off as extremely cocky. My pre med advisor knows I'm not and helps me word it to sound more humble. The problem with unconscious habits is they're done unconsciously, so you may not even notice them. That's why you need someone on the outside, a pre-med advisor, for example, keep an eye on you. Could be anyone really, not just a pre-med advisor, but make sure it's someone you know professionally.

1 .watch some Ted talks by good speakers and funny youtube videos
2. know your flaws are make a bullet point of things you want to remain cognizant of during the interview. example: don't say um, smile more, slow down when speaking
