Hello everyone,
I received my USMLE Step 1 score and got a 248. I come from a low tier med school, have one published article, have participated in 3 research projects during med school (one of which was made in conjunction with John Hopkins {published} and the other with Mount Sinai) , AOA member, and can get good LORs, a lot of community service, leadership roles, etc. I am particularly interested in a few IM programs, some of which are Baylor, University of Chicago, UT southwestern, Cleveland Clinic and Emory; particularly due to the proximity of those institutions to some of my family members and the quality of education that they can provide for my future fellowship goals. My main concern is that I get rejected based on the name of the institution that I come from.
PS: Can away rotations help me in great deal? How difficult is it to get one?
