Here's my story... but to be upfront I don't have an MCAT, no idea how well, or bad, I would score if I take it end of September. I currently work in clinical research-been postponing medical school for financial reasons as I'm the main source of income while my husband was working his way into medical school (he just finished first year at a DO school so proud of him). So now I feel it's my turn, but not sure if I actually have a shot into DO schools (no interest in MD). I work in wound care MSG practice and got introduced to Podiatry which I really liked so I applied this cycle to Podiatry school since they waived MCAT for the current application only due to COVID-19.
1. GPAs: Undergrad cGPA 3.33, sGPA 3.1, non-science 3.58
Graduate sGPA 3.89, non-science 4.0 (currently finishing up an online MS degree in clinical research management while working full time)
2. MCAT Score: was planning on preparing/taking it after I finish my Master's degree in August.
3. Shadowing hours & ECs research coordinator for 7 years so tons of hours, at least 10000+ paid healthcare experience, over 500 hours healthcare volunteer hours. 4 research posters presented at wound conferences, 3 publications (cancer research) and one submitted/not published yet related to COVID-19.
4.I applied to NYCPM only since I'm local and got accepted to class 2024, but I deferred enrollment to start January- class 2025
Everyone I work with (MDs/DOs) keep on telling me I should try applying for medical school before committing to Podiatry... I was completely happy with my NYCPM acceptance until ppl started trying to make me consider DO...Can I get an honest advice here?
