I just wonder if anyone got in pharmacy schools (that DO NOT require PCAT) with a GPA of 3.4 or below? If yes, what schools did you apply?

It seems like if you applied to the schools that require NO PCAT, you have to have a really strong GPA like 3.6 and up, right? I didn't do too well on the PCAT, so I'll probably have to apply to those that do not require it. What schools do you suggest?

I don't think that schools differentiate between a student with a 3.4 and a 3.6. Yeah, if everything else is equal then the 3.6 has the advantage but I would say you have a GPA that make you competitive. Just make sure your app. is well rounded.

Agreed! Is the 3.4 overall or science? For me, I came straight out of high school and screwed off at a community college and got 2 W's and an F (pretty sweet huh). Once I decided on pharmacy my grades dramatically improved but I knew those grades were going to work against me so I became a mentor for underpriveleged kids and taught a pharmacy tech class at work. Work experience will also help your chances of getting in (I have 4 1/2 years exp as a tech). At the end of my prereq journey I have a 3.85 science, 2.97 non-science and a 3.2 overall (make sure you have a good story behind your bad grades to wipe them out during your interview). As embarrasing as my 3.2 overall is....it is all about being well rounded and excelling in science.

It would also be a good idea to take 15 to 17 credit hours a semester and have a full time job (32 - 40 hours/week) to show the admissions board that you are no stranger to discipline and hard work. In my interviewing group alone there were 20 applicants and the majority had a biochem B.S or Chemistry B.S. I do not have a degree......just prereq's. IF this is your case then be prepared to do more community service than any 3 people you know.

Oh yeah.....and my acceptance letter has arrived.

I think the value of my 2 cents just dropped to 1. 😀

PHarmadocious you are applying to UNM right, Are you applying anywhere else I heard with us they just use prereq gpa. I guess that is good for me too, because i have had some bad semesters as well and overall it was a 3.2 gpa, science was even lower but on my prereqs i had a 3.4 so not sure how it will all work out. Who did you interview with lemme know.

My grades are honestly not all that impressive but I managed to get into a great pharm school without taking PCATs. More important than GPA in my opinion is experience and knowing yourself. Know why you want to be a pharmacist. Have passion and drive and show it through you application and interview...if you want more specifics about my grades and experiences just PM me...good luck!! 🙄

Nope, I just applied to UNM and I have now been accepted. I interviewed with Jennifer ??? and a retired pharmacist who worked for wal-mart for 30 years. If UNM just used prereq GPA then I think my chances would have declined bigtime. My science GPA, volunteering and my "work ethic" came up because I have been taking nothing but 15 to 17 credit hours of science (i.e. this semester I am taking Ochem II, A&P II, Physics II, Statistics and some piddly guitar class) and working full time as a tech along.

I graduated with a 3.28, scored a 92 on my PCATs, shadowed a pharmacist for one day (my only pharmacy experience), and was accepted into the only pharmacy school that I applied. There's hope with a subpar GPA.

Lynzee, so what school did you apply to i just applied to unm as I am a native from here yeah that whole gpa was weird and actually caught me offguard during the interview as they asked about grades outside the prereqs 2 Ws i had and fortunately i had an answer ready for them. When I went and talked to them before the interview they said they look at prereq gpa to show what you're gpa is, but i guess they are able to look at you're record during the interview. Im not real sure Im just keeping my fingers crossed congrats again that is awesome. Did you apply as instate or out of state i thought you were instate but it says AZ as you're location. Yeah i had a professor and third year that i had talked to quite a bit during lunch so it was a really good interview I was really prepared.
