Hey lovely SDNites. I applied for an undergraduate grant to explore NY during my interview week. I got the grant, but since I canceled my Columbia interview cos (I got into my first choice), there's no Major reason to go to NY at this point. I spoke with the Lady in charge and she said that since the money has been disbursed, I can find something else related to maybe dentistry or healthcare and use the money for that (I still have to send another proposal though (but that's not the problem) OR I can just write them a check for the same amount. This is my opportunity to explore something new and I don't know what to do!

I need to find a program/Conference or SOMETHING relevant to Dentistry that I can attend and I would need to turn in the proposal by Dec 21st. HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLP!

Hey, I live in Colorado and I am working with the metro denver dental society to volunteer at the Rocky Mountain Dental Convention in January. You should come to Colorado and go to the convention and while you are here you can go skiing or check out the mountains. It is free to attend the convention if you are a student and it is definitely a very cool event. Lots of speakers and vendors. Check out the website: http://www.mddsdentist.com/continuinged/convention.asp

Let me know if you have any questions and I can also hook you up with some cheap lift tickets if you want.

I think he said he gets to explore NYC. Just go to Yankee Stadium this Spring and catch a few games hehe

I would agree with going to a dental conference. I'm going to my first in January (The "Yankee", or the one for all New England dentists), and apparently they LOOOVE dental students. In fact, many students can get into classes, workshops, and events for free or greatly reduced admission. I suppose the venders all want to brainwash us into getting their super expensive intraoral cameras or whatever...

but anyway, there's usually TONS to do there, including social events and hobnobbing to meet other people in dentistry, and sometimes the local dental school has a booth of students where you can meet your future classmates! Basically, everyone goes to maybe ONE class during the day and then gets drunk all night :D

But you do get to take the same classes as specialists, dentists, hygienists, and office managers take...it's a good chance to see what you'll have to listen to for your ConEd credits and to hear some of that beautiful language of dentistry! :D

You are forgetting the most important detail. It's in Copley Place! After the conference, you can go around all the expensive stores and look at the things you could buy in a few years. I personally enjoy looking at the rolex watches.

Take a continuing education class by Dr. Frank Spear and get a chance to see the gold standard of cosmetic dentistry. The guy is unbelievably talented...it would definitely be worth your while.

boree, are you going to the Yankee this year? And is anyone else going, for that matter? We should meet up and form an SDN posse :D :D

nm, I'll start a convention thread so people can network...
