hi
thanx to all the members of SDN for their guidance and my special thanks to iomega who always supported me in tough times.
my only single advice to all buddies who are to take the exam is revision and revision.do not appear for exam until you are confident, put your best foot forward.
dont assume anything,go prepared for anything easy or hard.
thanx

one thing I want to share is that exam was very easy,i would say easier than 2004 pilot exam .testlet questions were straight forward.there were some say 10-15 repeat questions also but dont assume anything,go prepared for anything easy or hard.
thanx
congrats ashi good luck for the admission.I`m taking part 1 in july. Thanks for the advise.

Hi ashi. firstly congrats for the grt score, m from VA , n planning to gve nbde part1 in july 2011, im doing it from dental decks n Asda papers, do u think kaplan exam r useful should i go for them , i hv began prepartion since feb, i still hv to do with dental ant, n only 2months left can u suggest some topics n prepartion i must do n which is most scoring subjct? waiting for ur rply, ples guide.

hey aiming-high.. the exam was the same for me.. there were a solid 30-45 questions i had no clue of, with 100 or so that i had to chose between 2 choices.. i'm obviously estimating the number of questions, but i left the test center thinking i had done just enough to get around 300/400 right .. which is somewhere around 86... i ended up with a 89.. it's just the way the exam. .its so different from the past asda papers... knowing the subjects conceptually is the only way to score in this test, there are very few "direct" questions from the book.. more questions have u apply ur knowledge in new ways to find an answer.... good luck on your score and try not to take too much stress !

m planning to gv my NBDE1 in july 2011 . m studing from dental decks, asda, kaplan material for biochem physio, hv been ppring since feb, can u tell me does kaplan test help? which is a scoring subjct?also suggest some prepartion that i must do before taking the exam, still to study dental ant,, ples guide waiting for ur rply.

hey.. ur on the right track with asda and decks.. but ur doing urself a major disservice by not studying from first aid nbde... i suggest u get that book and read it 2wice at the minimum.. also, out of all the subjects that kaplan dental series reviews, physiology and biochem are the worst! the biochem in particular will not prepare you for a good score.. i was good in physio, so decks +asda+first aid were enough for that (if its a tough subject for you, than definitely read BRS physiology. it is a great book). biochem, the only book i wish i had read which i think could have helped my score is the usmle step 1 kaplan book. there is alot of information in that book you don't need, but the stuff that corresponds with our test is very well written and will definitely improve your score.

i believe if you take the exam with only reading kaplans biochem/physio review book (dental series) then you will be left fuming at the end of the exam.

the scoring subject is definitely dental anatomy/morpho. i read wheelers 2wice and read okeson tmj first 6 chapters. wheelers is essential, whereas okeson can be skipped. surprisingly, the first aid nbde dental + kaplan dental are both short and sweet review books for this section. it may seem like too little information, but its actually very high yield whatevers written in them.

hope i helped a bit, but if you get nothing from my entire post, i hope you at least do yourself a favor and buy first aid nbde and read through it. you wont be dissappointed with it.

hey i just read again that u were taking the test in july. so given the limited time, it isnt really possible to read dedicated texts for biochem or physiology. since uv been studying since february, the decks + asda must be burned into your brain by now. i'm sure with simple addition of first aid, u will get a definite boost to your score. focus on what you'v done and keep reviewing hard! make sure u do each asda paper 2wice as a good 30 DO repeat. good luck.

Hi Amreki,

Thanks for the great, detailed advice on NBDE part 1. It's a big help to ALL part 1 takers 👍 I'm writting my part 1 in Oct '11 & am just in the starting phase of preparation. Thanks again for the great advice, especially regarding Physio & Biochem. Some questions for you:
  1. What's your take on Lippincott for Biochem?
  2. Did you review Lippin for your prep?
I'm still trying to find Okeson book. So... if you or anybody else reading this post has an Okeson, I'd be willing to buy it (the first 6 chaps 😀). Thank you! & good luck with your future endeavours :luck:

Hello Harsey...could you please tell how helpful is asda released papers ..are the questions more tough than those papers??? And lastly what all series you did and for how many times??? I am taking exam in months time so your reply will really help.. thanking you in advance !!!!

hi bn15,
I did the asda papers once. and went through the decks as well as the nbde first aid 3 times.
The pattern of the questions is very much similar as the asda papers.
whenever i had doubts i would refer my school textbooks.
